I have always put the utmost effort into my projects before, and everytime, I have passed with flying colors. However, I need a bit more time to perfect this latest assignment. If I don’t, I can’t guarantee my work will be up to my previous standards. Would you want me to hand you a subpar product, get a bad grade, and force me to face the wrath of my parents? I understand that there are lots of other students who need to be graded, and there are other assignments you must move on to. However, I would much rather hand in a project that we would both be happy with rather than one that is simply on time. Also, I wouldn’t be the only one facing the wrath of my parents. If I don't get a good grade, my parents might have some questions about how well you are really teaching me. That would be a much bigger headache than you grading my project one or two days later than it was due. I implore you to give me more time so I can give you a project we can be proud of.

Did you know that most students that have excessive hours of homework deal with more academic stress, physical health problems and lack of balance in their lives? That’s like saying the majority of students have to add another responsibility when the ones they had already were hard enough to deal with alone. School is already basically like a 9-5 without payment so why do more work once at home. People with actual 9-5 jobs go home and relax but when it comes to school, you don’t. I don;t mind homework if it happens some days and not all days because they begin to stack. I do feel more stressed than normal because I’m too worried about my numbers going down for refusing to write on a piece of paper when we do plenty when we are at school. Sleeping is already an issue because we have to wake up early, meaning we have to sleep early. We aren’t given much time because we have things we have to do at home and then giving us hardly any time to do what makes us comfortable.

When teachers assign homework, I am 98% sure that students only do it just to get it done and over with. Teachers say that they assign it for practice and I get that but if we have 8 classes and have homework for all of them, I’m pretty sure we will forget what we did on the homework after finishing and working on a different homework. I know from experience that I sometimes say up late doing homework because I have other things to do, not just stuff that I get from school. Plus, there are also people that have jobs after school which could be really stressful and overwhelming. An article I found on procon.org, states that kids should have a chance to just be kids and do things that we enjoy doing especially after spending six hours a day in school. It also says that too much may be harmful to students because it can decrease the amount of leisure and sleep time we get, increases stress, and could lead to cheating. Imagine all the stress that students receive from just school work and trying to get their best on that but then also having to worry about finishing homework on time.

Effect and impact Of Choosing a Wrong Career

Choosing a career path is a struggle, at an early age you haven’t gone through enough experiences in life to decide whether you like something so much you can do it for a living. This is a problem that everyone faces and it is unavoidable. According to WiseStep, researchers found that students make the wrong choice choosing their careers at a young age because he or she is completely clueless about what they want to pursue. Exploring your interests is one way to figure out the path you want to chase after. If the work you do on a daily basis doesn’t give you any joy or satisfaction from it can lead to you wanting to give up. By not exploring something you love or interested in it can eventually develop into early stages of anxiety or depression. When you feel unsatisfied with the choice you made for your future it can feel like you're stuck nowhere and make you feel hopeless, empty, confused, lost, and disappointed. “I feel like I am mostly brain dead and just task driven. I’m missing mental and intellectual stimulation and lack a career path.” ~B.A. Economics, Sr. IT Consultant, age 33, “I don’t enjoy what I do, and this makes me feel like a fraud. I’m not getting to create anything, and I don’t feel like I’m using my brain.” ~CPA, B.B.A., Senior Software & IT Development Manager, age 40, “I just turned 30 and got married, and realized that my career has always been about chasing the next big opportunity, mainly for the money. I never asked, “what do I want to do, what am I best at, or what do I care about?” ~B.A. Materials & Logistics, Global Business Manager, age 30. These are all perfect examples of “successful” people waking up in the wrong career. The examples I used were people who felt like they wasted their time doing something that they didn’t genuinely enjoy or loved. If you're doing something to please other people such as your parents and not to please yourself it can seem like success stories from your parents eyes and how they want to perceive you. Always follow your heart and do what you truly love because it can leave you with consequences in the future that will make you feel like you wasted an opportunity.

According to Sunshine Learning, it states that it's important to take a break from their education. There have been many studies that show that most students have been getting a bit over much of homework which leads to sleep deprivation. It's recommended to get 8.5 - 9.25 hours per night but samples reported that students get 6.80 hours of sleep which causes a high level of stress for them. I personally have dealt with that stress by the amount of homework given to the point where I just couldn’t do anymore and my sleep schedule being a mess after that. The research and personal experience gives us the evidence we need to eliminate homework to not just for that but our health as well.

Now rewind back to the days where I had 4 - 6 hours of sleep because the amount of homework I was given, made me realise that students will be dealing with that each year. That is why I hope you understand Principle that too much homework could lead to students not showing their full potential at school due to their lack of sleep. So as I’m writing this, we can change students' potential to being better at school with no homework or less homework so we can have a healthy sleep and no stress.

Dear parents,

I know I came home 30 minutes later than what my curfew is, but I have a good explanation. There was a lot of traffic and I couldn’t do anything about it. I don’t want you guys to view me as a bad child but I feel like you shouldn’t be too harsh on me for something that was not my fault, like traffic. According to FurtureOfWorking it states, “Some teenage curfew rules can encourage rebellion.” I feel like it is unfair for you to give me a curfew and that you don’t trust me. Teenage curfew laws create unnecessary conflicts with today’s youth. I am responsible enough to know when it is too late and when I should get home so I feel like having a curfew isn’t necessary. Having a curfew doesn’t help me in the real world either so I don’t know what the point of having one. I’ve never stayed out late past my curfew before, except this once, so you can see that I can handle it on my own.

Dear Principle,

Hello, it is Tyler Goodwin. I am here today to talk about how we do not need homework. I have wasted most of my time at home doing homework instead of hanging out with my friends and family. I have done the math. On average you waste 1 to 2 hours on homework a day. Multiply that by 180 for all the school days. That is 180 to 360 hours plus the school hours, 180 days multiplied by 7 equals 1,260 hours a year. Then 11 years equals 1,980 days or 69,300 hours just for school. Plus the homework 180 times 1-2 multiply that by 5 that is 900-1,800 hours of homework a year. 11 years of homework equals 9,900-19,800 hours. 9,900 plus 69,300 equals 79,200 /24=3,300 /365= 9 years. Of school and 1 hour of homework. 2 hours of homework is even worse. It is 10 and half years. Homework does not seem like it takes up this time but it does. Without homework that drops down to roughly 8 years that takes off 2 or more years. Obviously these are the perfect amount because not every teacher gives homework so or they give three times as much. But this is the closest I could get by doing the math I have realized that is 2+ years gone. Because I was doing homework for a class I didn’t need to do. That is what the other 8+ years are for. As a student I want you to realize how much we have missed for absolutely no reason. Homework should not be a forced thing. Homework should be an optional thing like studying if you need or want it. If we have not learned it in the 8+ years then we shouldn’t learn it because no matter how hard you shove a square piece into a circle piece it will never go through. I want to leave you with a question. I want you to think about your loved ones, your friends and family and how much more time you could be making memories instead of doing homework?

To whomever sees and finds this of importance. My name is Abdul Jabbar, I'm a sophomore at Atlantic County Institute of Technology. I would like to change my academy to Culinary Arts from Health Sciences and Medicine. I would like to change it because I chose Health Sciences as my academy and thought about it for like 5 minutes. I remember on the academy letter, there was Health Sciences, there was IT and I'm not good with computers, I thought there really wasn’t anything for me in cooking until now. My point is I chose it because I didn’t think of what the other academies could do for me. I didn't think about it, and I just chose in like less than 5 minutes, which I shouldn’t have. I still don’t know what career I want or if it’s worth putting a LOT of money into college and studying medicine and only that for so long because the only thing I understood was in Health Science jobs there was money. I want to join Culinary to understand food. I still don’t know where I am going or what I'm going to do but I would like to have good health, understand exercises, and above all food. My health and my family's health isn’t the best and I don’t know how long I can eat my traditional food because I’ve been eating it for a while now. I find it hard finding what is in and how good our food really is for anyone, I want a change of it. For my physical health too, I mean your food and intake is half of getting into good shape and the other half is really exercising. I urge you to change my academy for better outcomes for myself.

Did you know that homework can cause a student to actually become dumber? Well according to Sunshine Learning Miami “Many students wrote that homework causes them to sleep less than they should and leads to “headaches, exhaustion, sleep deprivation, weight loss and stomach problems” as well as a lack of balance in their lives.” Homework can make a kid stressed and worsen their productivity in school. From doing school work to doing more work at home and then barely getting any sleep is terrible for a student’s health. And what if a student doesn't have a home? Do you think they will feel any better not only having to worry about living not in a home but they also have to worry about homework? I’ve been doing homework for most of my life and it has never made me any smarter in class, it has only been a pain to do because it wastes my time and makes me get less sleep. So next time you’re going to assign some homework, think about what it does to the other person mentally.

Around 56 percent of students claimed that most of their stress is caused by homework. As a student who agrees that homework is stressful, I have seen my fair share of ways as to why it causes stress. First off let’s talk about why this stress can be bad. When a person is stressed for long periods of time, it can physically cause a person to have a shorter life span. Stress can also cause the person to be anxious, and in a school situation being anxious can not only cause you to do worse on assignments, but also leaves you with more stress. Stress can also change the attitude of a person greatly.

Now, as to why stress from homework is caused. Due dates play a huge role in why homework can be stressful. Kids may feel like they won’t have enough time and rush through it, or feel like they have too much time and then don’t get it done when it needs to be. This causes it to either become late or have a worse grade, which makes the student stressed out. Another reason why homework is stressful is because of how it impacts your grade. When trying to get a good grade, you may find that you messed up too many times, or the teacher just did not find it good enough. This can cause the student to doubt themself, especially when it drops their grade. This doubt can lead to stress or, in some cases, cause the student to mess up more on future assignments because they don’t feel like they did it correctly.

Again 56% of students, which is more than half, claim that homework is a cause of stress in their life. This is why homework should be banned, so that way students have a less stressful time going to school, and can focus more on their in class work.
