The Monroe doctrine was created in 1823 when the president issued annual message to congress. In this message he included a type of warning to the European countries. this doctrine had two parts: 1) noncolonization and 2) non intervention. Monroe was basically saying that the north and south Americas were no longer open to colonization because that window had closed. It also stated that the European powers could no longer invade independent countries in these areas. These ideas were a result of the nationalism born from the war of 1812. This doctrine was never an official law but more of a stated agreement for the united states. Expectedly, the European powers did not like this action by the united states 1 because it was directly target towards them and 2 because the Americas barely had the military power to back this statement up. It was almost insulting to Europe. This protective doctrine not only directly ensured safety of the country as a whole but also comfort in the minds of its citizens. The doctrine further solidified the ideas of isolationism from old world powers.
