I have shared with my teachers that they could create Grade level lesson plans and requested they post an overview of the week's learning goals in their classrooms so parents could have some preliminary information in order to better support them at home. They are already working together on plans so I don't think this would be a burden and perhaps the departments could do something similar?
Colleen

It's one less thing for teachers to stress about and I think you can learn a lot from their classrooms. I've been popping in and commenting and I'm finding it really helpful to see exactly what they're doing rather than just what they say they are doing (or that they had planned to do).

I am comfortable with a waiver. Letting teachers focus on planning together as they can and preparing grade level sub plans is more important now.

I am ok with continuing to waive lesson plans. For teachers who need more support I have been meeting with individually so they can walk me through their plans for this week. These small conversations are more productive than submitting formal plans.

If there is a teacher that we have concerns about, in particular in the area of their planning and preparation, can we have that teacher do plans with regular submission while other teachers do not have that requirement? Would that need to be formally documented first? For the overwhelming majority of teachers this is non-issue for me but for the ones that are struggling, I worry that not having required lesson plans is problematic in our process of providing feedback.

I think it is wise to continue the waiver. Teachers are stressed out and I think requiring them to put lessons in writing would add to their stress level. However, perhaps we should encourage teachers to begin submitting lesson plans in a relaxed form. Maybe they can submit an outline of the activities they covered for the day. Most of them are probably writing something down to stay organized, so this may be a way to help get them back in the swing of doing lesson plans.
Wayne

I think we should continue the waiver but I would find it helpful to be able to meet with teachers, particularly at the HS, in their PLCs. The HS teachers have two times during the day that they can use for coplanning. Meeting once or twice a month to plan and discuss best practices would be very valuable.
