This photo shows five African American women working on railroads in the 1940s. These women worked on the Baltimore and Ohio railroad daily inspecting and maintaining the tracks making sure they were up to par and safe for travel.

Today if you look at this image you do not see how powerful this image is or why them working goes against the norm of the 1940s culture. Women were known to stay inside and take care of their homes and children while men went to work and make money to provide for their families. However, when were drafted into WWII women had to step out of their comfort zones and pick up on mens' jobs to keep their society up and running. This was a brave task for women to take on considering they had no work experience but as you can see they did what they had to do to keep everything up and running

This Picture shows two fashionably-dressed women walk past a man in his bathrobe.
This Picture was taken by Genevieve Naylor.
She was an American photographer and photojournalist, best known for her photographs of Brazil and as Eleanor Roosevelt's personal photographer.
In 1940, Genevieve Naylor was sent to Brazil by the US department to help to strengthening the anti-Nazi relationship between the United States and Brazil and to promote mutual cultural awareness.
This decade was a time of technology and development. The Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer, the first programmable electronic computer, is unveiled at the University of Pennsylvania in 1940s.
NATO has been established and many new weapons like bombs has been created in this era.
This Picture shows us the culture of 1940s. It shows that it was common for residents to sit outside their homes wearing only their pyjamas.
The Clothing style was not very modern women use to wear long skirts and gloves every time.
In this decade women’s fashion was about creating a certain silhouette wide padded shoulders, nipped in high waist tops, and A-line skirts that came down to the knee. This was the everyday shape for clothing, from suits to dresses. Even pants had a similar shape.
This picture is also very powerful it influences the culture we have today because some people still wear the same style clothes because they are influenced by the cultural clothing of 1940s.

Joe Rosenthal - He was an American photographer who is best known for taking the picture above. He won the Pulitzer Prize award for this taking this picture.

U.S Marines and a Navy Corpsman raising the American flag on top of Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War 2. Half of the men in the picture died during the war.

This picture shows the patriotism of the United States during World War 2. It amazes me that the during the heat of it all, these Marines decided to put the American flag up. They are fighting for their country and are so proud to be Americans. I see the brotherhood being portrayed in this picture. They fought together, were ready to die together, and celebrated together when they won. I think this picture shows the power of the United States during the 1940’s due to the heroism and bravery of United States military.

D. Darian Smith - Born in Australia and joined the military a year before he was legally allowed to. He was a member of the Professional Photographers’ Association of South Australia. This shows he probably liked taking pictures of war related topics because he was in the military.

In this picture we can see mostly women working in a factory that produced ammunition during World War 2. Men were away to fight in the war so women worked in factories.

Throughout history we can see the change in mentality due to certain events that took place. As more and more men were needed to go to battle, women had to start working the jobs that mostly men used to work. This included working in factories. As times change, so do the roles of groups of people. Before the war, there was an understanding that men worked the jobs that required hard labor while the women stayed home to take care of the house and the family. This photo shows how the cultural norms were changed because of the circumstances around the world.

This picture was take by Robert Capa. He was a Hungarian war photographer and photojournalist and also known as the greatest combat and adventure photographer in history. He risked his life numerous times and he also documented the course of World War II.
This is the picture of an American soldier shot and killed by a German sniper in the battle for Leipzig on 18 April 1945.
During this decade many things were going on like Adolf Hitler commit suicide, Harry S. Truman becomes US President following the death of President Roosevelt. Nuclear Bomb dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki Japan surrender on August 14th (V-J Day) and etc.
I think this Picture is extremely powerful because this dead man, who lay in the open door. Photograph show the rapid spread of the soldier’s blood across the floor tell the people that war is not easy. This picture can change people's perspective on the war because it tells that war is only a loss of life and it may force people to spread love instead of war.

This photo is of nine Hollywood writers, producers, and directors who were accused of being communist by Congress in 1947. These men refused to state their political party when asked by Congress and were jailed.

This photo is not spectacular but it says a lot about politics at this time in history. People were questioned and imprisoned over assumptions that they were communist, assumptions with no evidence. A secret list was created of possible suspects of communists and peoples' reputations were ruined because of this. The US was so focused on containing communism and controlling people's beliefs of politics they were hurting their own people trying to do so. A lot of innocent reputations were ruined over accusations of communism.
