My favorite books are these three volumes that are part of the Lion Emblem series by Francine Rivers. In these books, a story takes shape from the point of view of three people: the slave, the master and the prisoner. In the first volume, also called A Voice Carried by the Wind, the life of a jewish woman taken into slavery by the romans, named Hadasah, is described.
After many journeys, slave trades, starvation and captivity, Hadasa ends up as a slave in a roman family. Following her faith to the end, Hadassah was a kind and hardworking person, different from all the slaves, this was also seen by the eldest son of the family, Marcus, who fell in love with her. Through many efforts the young man tries to communicate with the slave and get closer to her, but Hadassah always remained cold and indifferent, considering herself inferior. When the young man realized her feelings she wanted to be his wife, given the condition that she renounce her faith. Despite the insistence, Hadasa did not give up her faith, considering it more important than the person she loves. This news also reached the younger sister of the young man, who, in order to punish the slave, denounces her, and she is taken prisoner.
The volume ends with the scene where the slave Hadassah is given to the lions in the arena, Marcus watching as she dies, unable to do anything. Angry with his sister, with tears in his eyes he leaves the arena.

In this book, the suffering that the author Richard Wurmbrand goes through during the communist period is presented. At the beginning of the book, the evolution of the author is presented, a Jew who aspired to a leadership position in the Christian church. After obtaining a position as pastor of a church Richard W. marries. After several years of service in the church, the establishment of the communist regime appears in Romania. At first this seemed to be a good thing, but along the way it became the enemy of Christians.
Richard W. attends a communist meeting with many other priests where the faith is denigrated. His wife at that time encouraged him to go and "wash the shame from the face of Christ" being aware of the consequences of this. Seeing the hesitation in her husband's eyes she mentioned that she didn't want to keep a cowardly man at home. After that talk R.W. he was chased by security and kidnapped from the street and taken to a secret prison.
For 12 years R.W. he did not see his wife and two children. Tortured and lied to about his family's condition, he did not give in to the challenges. Reaching his deathbed many times, he did not stop fighting, managing to reach home in the end.
This is a living testimony of his dedication to his family and faith, being able to endure torture, misery, starvation and disease.

The action begins in 64, during the reign of Emperor Nero. Vinicius, a Roman officer, falls in love with Lygia, the daughter of the Ligian king who was a hostage of war, but had been lovingly raised by Aulus and Pomponia, his adoptive parents. Vinicius' uncle Petronius, Nero's chief advisor, uses his influence to have the girl taken to Vinicius' house.
The girl, however, resists and with the help of Christians manages to escape. Furious, Vinicius hires a charlatan to find her. After several searches he finds her and with the help of a gladiator tries to kidnap her, but is almost killed by Lygia's bodyguard, Ursus. Badly wounded, he remains in Lygia's house.
She realizes their love for each other, but realizes that her love for him is against God's will and runs away again.
Vinicius meets Lygia again in the underground, where Christians used to gather, and is filled with faith in Christ after what he has heard. He is baptized and receives the blessing of the Apostle Peter.
After Nero sets fire to Rome to find inspiration for a new epic, he blames the Christians for the fire. As a result, all Christians are arrested and subjected to terrible tortures: they are thrown into the arena before wild animals, crucified or burned alive. Among those arrested is Lygia, and despite Vinicius' best efforts, he is unable to save her.
She is tied to a bison and put in the arena where Ursus is. Ursus, however, manages to kill the bison and save Lygia. Vinicius jumps into the arena and picks up Lygia, who was very ill. The crowd empathizes with them and defends them against Nero.
In time, the people realize the Christians' false accusation, but the apostle Peter was still wanted, so he is advised to flee Rome.
On his way out of the city, he is shown Christ, and Peter asks him: "Quo Vadis, Domine" ("Which way, Lord?"). ", His answer being "Rome". Peter plucks up courage and turns back, and is eventually arrested and crucified, dying a martyr's death.

His unique story touched the world and became the subject of a film. Desmond Doss, played by Andrew Garfield in the film, wanted to help his country's army. But his religion, Adventist, forbade him to touch any kind of weapon. By refusing to obey orders in training, Desmond Doss came very close to being drummed out of the army.
He was saved, however, by a section of the law that said enlisted men could not be forced to do things against their faith. That's how he ended up on the front line.
1945, Battle of Okinawa. The historic moment during which D. Doss, with no weapon on him to defend himself, is at the front as a medic. His only thought was to save lives. And save he did. 75 soldiers (including enemy soldiers) were saved by Desmond Doss at Okinawa.
The film Hacksaw Ridge shows, in addition to frightening battlefield scenes, the enormous physical efforts the non-combatant medic made to save lives. Left alone on the front line, D. Doss spends an entire night rappelling down and rescuing the wounded with ropes. In the morning, bloody-handed and exhausted, Doss still wanted to save.
For his extraordinary bravery on the front, Desmond Doss received the Medal of Honor from President Harry S. Truman. The Okinawa hero died at the age of 87 on 23 March 2006.
