A reason being is doctors had created a vaccine for the fatal disease of small pox. This was done by injecting a small dose of the disease to strengthen the immune system against it. Using this method it is thought to be one of the main uses the creation of vaccines. Thinking forward it can be logical thinking that somebody who changed the world with their invention could have been effected by a disease and without knowing how to prevent disease it could have kept them from inventing what they did. We today wouldn't be the same without the help of medical technology invented in the past.
