I was in a minimarket buying some grocieries, this was like 3 years ago, by september. I needed some rice to make dinner and some mushroom, i decided to tell the shopkeeper what i needen and wait by the other entry of the store, in less than a minute a car drove by a drunk woman crashed into the front entry of the store and making its way into the store, luckly i did not got hit but the impact just made it fair to be there. At the front of the store was a police station, so the police ran to help and called the firemans, because side to the store was a mini-restaurant and there was a gas leak. Nobody got hurt because of the fast help.

One day, when I was a baby, my father decided to hold me in his hands. We were doing a family walk with my mother and extended family: cousins, aunts and uncles. We were on the country farm seeing the cows, but suddenly one of the cows that had recently given birth decided to come after us. Afterwards, the animal pushed us to the ground. My father fell but did not stop holding me. By the time that it was happening, my uncle and my cousin were being attacked by another cow with a newborn baby, since they tend to be protective over their pups. They got to run and hide but we couldn't. Then, the cow that had us cornered pointed at my father with its horns while angrily moving its hoof. In the meantime, my mother tried to drive the animal away from us but could not. When the animal gave up on its own everyone was surprised because it could have stepped on us. Finally, my family helped my father to get up and go home again.

One day, I was with my friends at Univalle, walking around the university and talking. Suddenly, a friend named Miguel guided us to the FAI building and suggested we go to the rooftop. That part of the building didn’t have stairs, so the only way up was to climb. At first, I was really scared, but my friends had done it before, so they encouraged me. The height was about 3 meters, but I managed to climb. When everyone was at the top, it was amazing, the view was beautiful, and we were all happily reflecting on our lives.

As the sun started to set, I wanted to go down because I was scared, but my friends didn’t want to, so I had to stay until the sunset was over and night began. Thankfully, a security guard saw a friend walking around on the roof and told us to come down. Everyone else descended so easily, but I couldn’t. I tried to go down three times, but I was so scared that I had to climb back up again. I was feeling an indescribable amount of fear. Some friends tried to help, but I wasn’t cooperating. Finally, a friend named Juan guided me down, and I almost made it, but then I got scared and decided to jump. Thankfully, I landed safely, and nothing happened to me, but it could have ended in an accident. When we were all back on the first floor, we started laughing, and everyone was surprised by what I had done.

One day in December 2018, when I was 15, my friend Alexander and I decided to explore a remote hillside near Ipiales, Nariño. Suddenly, thick fog surrounded us, and we lost the trail. Then, Alexander slipped near a steep drop, but I managed to pull him back. In the meantime, we struggled to find any clear path. By the time that we realized we were really lost, panic set in. Afterwards, we carefully kept moving forward, hoping for a way out. Finally, we encountered hikers who guided us to safety, cold and shaken but alive.

Looking back, that moment taught us a lot about the dangers of taking risks without proper preparation. What seemed like a fun adventure quickly turned into a dangerous situation. Since then, I've always been more careful when exploring unknown places.

One day I was in my bedroom and I felt somewhat sleepy, so I decided to lie on my bed.

Suddenly, I fell asleep and entered into the world of dreams. In the dream, I was in the same place and time, but it was dark and the ambience felt strange. I wanted to stand up but my body was paralyzed, so I "fell asleep" again.

Then I dreamed I was in the same place and time. I remembered I had been listening to music before sleeping, so I raised my head to see my cellphone, but what it was a cellphone was now a block of transparent and meaningless glass. My cellphone had dissapeared. With nothing to do with it, I fell asleep again.

Afterwards, I encountered myself in the same dream, IN THE SAME DREAM I WAS BEFORE! Now something was going wrong. I could feel my blood getting cold, the dream looking more like a prison and my body being paralyzed again. I tried to stand up but it was impossible. I could only raise my head and my torso until a force pushed me back to sleep.

Then, I found myself.... in the same dream again! What was going on?! I was scared and tried to shout for help. I tried to use all my force to stand up and wake up but this time a subtle shadown was appearing in front of me.

By the time I entered into the same dream, I turned my head to look at the kitchen where my sister was. I asked her to help me. She seemed to have heard my voice, because she stood up and walked towards the bedroom, but when she got there, my sister was NOT my sister anymore... It was the shadow that I had seen in the last dream. In the meantime, I thought I was going to be trapped forever, so in a matter of desperation, I decided to confront the shadow. But something weird happened: she was giving me her hand to stand up, which I accepted.

Finally, I woke up from that horrendous cycle and I enjoyed what it felt to be alive once again.

Danger is a relative thing

I have learned that danger is a cultural aspect. How safe we can feel one place or the other does not have much to do with the real dangers we can face. I'm not sure this story is about a time in which I was in a dangerous situation, but despite it happened to me, I felt I was watching danger from the barrier.

One day, when I used to live in San Fernando, my best friend from uni came to visit for couple days. He came for work, so he took some time to be at my place catching up with office stuff. When I finished my class, I asked him what to make for lunch, since we had the habit of cooking together. But he responded that he was in Cali, this was a new city to him and we should go out to grab a bite.

We decided to go to San Antonio and by the time we finished lunch, we went for coffee and dessert. Suddenly I got a call from my boyfriend, with whom I shared that apartment. He asked me if I had left in a rush today because the apartment was too disorganised. I said no, to which he answered: well, that just means someone broke into our home and left it upside down. We had to skip the walk-around and run to the apartment to see what had really happened. In the meantime, my boyfriend said he was going to call the police, but he warned me that the administrator of the building was reluctant to it.

Once there I got surprised of how much of a distaster they had made. All my things were all around, even my underwear, and that was the timie when I really understood the meaning of upside down. They took my macbook, my friend's macbook pro from the office with all the information from his work projects, they found some money my boyfriend had and I did not know about and they also took some sterline pounds I had, and my boyfriend did not know about. They stole my glasses because those were Lacoste, and stole two watches I had brought as souvenires from two trips to other countries. They were not too valuable, but I loved them because they reminded me of the good times I had passed there. In total, all was valued in around 12 million pesos.

Afterwards, the owner of the building arrived and he said: oh well, most of the times when robberies like this happen, it is someone the people from that apartment know: the boyfriend, the visitor... who knows? I would not like for you to bring the police around here; if you need something more effective, let me know who you think it was and I help you out with that.

We did not know what to do. I always suspected it was the administrator of the building. Nothing was done about it. The next day we went to the Fiscalía, but nothing happened, they sent us round and round and we could not recover anything or do anything about it. So we started considering moving out.

However, I just made a reflection and my conclusion was: if we go somewhere else, we will never know if that place is equally or more dangerous than this one we are at. In the end, if it was the administrator, she already knows we don't have shit. She took everything. This means we are in the safest place we can be in Cali.

Finally, we stayed living there, until we broke up like... 4 years later.

When I was seven years old (more or less), I went on a family trip to Santa Marta. It was my first time there and I was very excited about it. After many days, my parents decided to visit the Tairona park and my dad's family agreed (they were on the trip with us), so we had to do the whole walk to the beach very slowly because my grandmother wanted to walk alone and my dad didn't want to leave her behind with her sister, like her other siblings did. By the time my dad, grandma, aunt and I got to the beach, it was already noon. The waves were quite big since it was a windy day, but the waves were bigger than they had been in the morning, even on the shore, which was the place where I wanted to rest and play since I couldn't swim, so those who went first got to enjoy them, unlike me. I was sad, and my father felt guilty, so he told me to swim beside him, and I did because I trusted him not to let me drown. It turns out that he let me drown to save my grandmother after a wave sank both my grandmother and me. My aunt, who was by my grandmother's side the whole trip, tried to help her too, so I was left alone with my null swimming skills in the sea. Luckily, my mother was watching the scene on the shore and ran, or swam, to rescue me, but in the meantime, I was trying my best to float and ask someone for help. Finally, my mother grabbed me and called for help.

I remember when I was 6 years old, and I put myself in danger. One day, I was at home peacefully sleeping, and when I woke up at 8 am on Saturday, nobody was there, not even my parents. That was strange since my mom would never leave me alone. So, I decided to leave the house and look for my family. I was only 6 years old, and of course, I was scared :(. I remember thinking that I could find them since I knew where they worked, but even though I tried to get there, I became very anxious in the way.

Suddenly, one of my neighbors recognized me and asked, "What are you doing alone Sofi? Where is Lore (my mom)?” I was crying and told her that I was looking for them and thought they had abandoned me. My neighbor told me not to cry and said she would help me get to my parents' workplace. By the time that I arrived there, my parents weren’t there because, while I was going down the street looking for them, they were heading back up to the house to look for me. ._.

Fortunatelly, the people at my parents' work knew me, so they called them. Finally, my parents came to pick me up, very worried, and they never left me alone again. THATS WHY I AM SO ANXIOUS :c

One day, in December 2017, I was on a trip with my whole family; we went to visit my grandma's family, who lived in another department, so we stayed there for a week. At one of the farmers of my grandma’s brother, there was a river, so my family and I went there to hang out and swim. I didn’t know how to swim, so I stayed at the edge with my little cousins, but I really enjoyed the experience.

At the next day, early in the morning, some members of my family decided to go again. I didn’t want to, but my mother finally convinced me, so I went with them. By the time that we arrived, we noticed that the river was a little bit higher, and the currents were stronger, but it didn’t seem dangerous or something, that's what we thought. We were there, having a good time.

Suddenly, my mother said, "Come here, you will learn how to swim". I agreed and we went to a higher spot in the river where the water was deeper. My mother was teaching me how to move in the water. But the current gradually carried us away until we couldn’t get back to the border. My cousins were just watching how the current took us away, but no one dared to do anything. My mother and I started shouting for help, but everybody was in shock.

Afterwards, my father jumped into the water and quickly began swimming toward us, but the current was very strong, and it was taking us away quickly. I didn't notice it, but I was drowning my mother because I was climbing on top of her. She later told me that she reached a point where she felt in calm. I kept screaming, asking for help, and praying to God.

Finally, my dad could reach us, but there was a whirlpool further ahead that could have pulled us all in and drowned us. My dad acted quickly and separated my mother from me so she could breathe and swim. We were both weak, but my mother was much weaker. We swam to the shore as best as we could. My siblings were crying, but fortunately, nothing serious happened; it was just a big scare.

On December 31st, I was on vacation in Ecuador with my family, staying at a friend's apartment. She had lent it to us while she went on vacation. Earlier that day, we went out for lunch at a mall and left our dog in the apartment. When we got back around 5 PM, we tried to open the door, but it wouldn’t budge. Our dog had somehow pushed the lock, so we were locked out.

We started looking for a way in. We climbed up to the terrace on the sixth floor and noticed that one of the windows on the third floor was open. We decided that they could tie some sweaters together and lower me down to the window so I could climb in. But as they tied the sweaters, we could hear the stitches tearing, and I was getting a little shaky.

Suddenly , my brother arrived with a rope. They tied it around me securely, and I managed to keep my cool as they lowered me down. I finally got inside, unlocked the door, and let everyone in.

One day, in Nariño, my friend and I sat in a remote cabin on Halloween night as a fierce storm rattled the walls. Earlier that evening, the power had gone out, leaving only the firelight to cast shadows on the walls. My nerves were a little shaky, and soon after, my friend confessed he was hearing strange noises outside. At that moment, my imagination was going out of my mind with fear. Suddenly, a loud crash came from the porch.

Scared to death, we cautiously opened the door, expecting the worst. Surprisingly, we found a tree branch blown down by the storm, tangled in their porch light.

Afterward, we sighed with relief and laughed nervously. But just as we relaxed, a faint knock came from the window.

One day, we were in a park, waiting for a car to take us to a presentation we had half an hour from where we were.

It had rained a lot that day and the road was almost impossible for huge cars. Because of that, the car that was supposed to take us could never arrive. But we didn't care and since we were so excited to go, we looked for a "gipeto" (The driver was a crazy guy).

We started the trip but since there were so many of us, some had to ride in the hood and, like a good girl, I got up there with two other friends. There were about 15 minutes left on the road and the place where we were going to pass was covered by a landslide.

The driver said: I know where, then, he took a shortcut. The shortcut was a very narrow path with abyss on each side, but since we were laughing we hadn't thought about the danger.

Suddenly, one of us slipped and when I grabbed him, we were just 3 centimeters away from falling into the abyss.

Finally, we were able to make the presentation and we went through the shortcut on foot :D

It happened last year. I remember that I was fighting with my ex-boyfriend and to try to calm things down, he suggested taking a "night ride" on the motorcycle. We left the house at 9 o'clock at night towards "San Marcos", a municipality in Yumbo. On the way, we were looking at the sky, because it looked very beautiful thanks to the fact that there were no light posts on the road and we were talking about the relationship, until suddenly, a motorcycle approaches us from behind and tells us to turn off the motorcycle and let's get off I remember that I didn't understand anything and we continued normal, until the grill man took out a revolver and pointed it at us. My ex-boyfriend, I don't know how he managed to escape when he closed us in, but the guy with the gun shot us and chased us for about 20 minutes. On the way, I remembered a instruction from teacher Charol about us having to carry a cell phone for the class (lol) but I knew that if we were to fall, I wouldn't count it. When I was safe, I remember writing to my classmates what happened and I was laughing. Finally, I made up with the guy, but we broke up 6 months later loool
