         <description><![CDATA[<div>One strategy I could use in the classroom is to make sure that lessons and activities are relevant to students' lives and the real world (Global Digital Citizen Foundation, 2015b). Therefore, as I think about recent math lessons in my curriculum, I reflected on how I could make adding with regrouping and subtraction across zeros more applicable to students lives. With holiday feasts and shopping excursions soon upon us, I came up with the idea of having students create shopping lists with a budget. Students have to decide on a budget, how many gifts and how much they can spend on each person.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Another strategy I could use in the classroom is to create authentic learning opportunities and experiences students will need in order to be college and career ready. Therefore, I came up with the idea of having students create a travel brochure comparing our state with their pen pals' state (Wyoming).          <description><![CDATA[<div>The decline in creativity is not something new. There is a great Newsweek article from 2010 that discusses the fact that both Europe and China, were moving towards Project Based Learning in their classrooms then.&nbsp; They laughed at us for continuing down the path we have not changed since then.&nbsp; They point out this, "Creativity isn’t about freedom from concrete facts. Rather, fact-finding and deep research are vital stages in the creative process." I think we are moving in ways in the right direction, with Common Core. When you look at the ELA Standards, the word "research" is mentioned 80 times. If teachers understood the Pedagogy of them, then they would be willing to move towards learning and using Project Based Learning. I like the ideas you have come up with for your students. Our math teacher, does the same idea within one of the Units of Studies that we have developed for the new standards for our district.
