In the Hunger games, the working classes are the Districts and our main characters. katniss everdee, peeta mellark, gale, primrose, haymith. Life in the working class is not great. They live in poverty and have to hunt in order to survive. Examples of this are how Katniss was hunting the Deer for food and how excited she got when Gale gave her bread, as if it’s a rare item. The ruling class sees them as less than them and uses their deaths as entertainment. The characters of Hunger Games directly relates to Marx and Engel’s concept of “The Ruling Class” as the wealthy are dominant and manipulate the working class people. They use their lives as entertainment and they often make decisions which benefits them but makes the working class lives worse.

The other districts are unable to maintain their own assets, they have to adjust to the rules and ideas that come from the Capital in order to live there lives. Then we have a last goodbye between Katniss and her family and friend (The guard said 3 minutes they got way less than that) . then we are shown one last scene on a train as Peta (the male tribute) and Katniss meet their mentor (Played by Woody Haralson a very very drunk man. this scene helping to further cement the contrast between the capitol and the district.

in the Hunger games, the ruling class are the citizens of the capital, led by president snow. in the movie, it appears that the citizens of the capital all live however they really want, mostly in a very fancy victorian way as seen with one of the characters who has a pale white face through the use of makeup much like many victorian women did back in the 1800s. they treat the working class basically as slaves who only exist to support them and entertain them through participation in the hunger games, it connects to Marx and Engel's concept of the ruling class where the prevailing ideas of a particular society are formed by the ruling class to express and justify their position, in this case, they are supreme and all others are below them and only exist to serve/entertain them.

In Divergent, the population is divided into five factions based on shared values (for example, Dauntless is the faction for people who value bravery). Those who don't fit into the factions are called the "factionless" and they depend on other factions to survive. When children turn 16, they take an aptitude test, and they decide which faction they will choose. The protagonist, Tris, takes the test and learns she's "divergent" which means she belongs to more than one faction. Divergents are rare and pose a threat to the government, which is run by a select group of higher-ups. Divergent connects to the reading because of how Tris posed a threat to "the ruling class" because she stood out from the others. In the movie, she was able to withstand the "mind control serum" from the ruling faction. There was also a clear distinction of labour/power dynamics between the factions, which was dismantled by Tris and the other divergents.

The ruling class of the Hunger Games would be the organizers of the games, Effie Trinket, President snow, and Seneca Crane.

The ruling class in the film is pompous and arrogant. They mock the sacrifice the districts give each year their ENTERTAINMENT. The ruling class states " oh these games are an honor", however, as Gale says the games are just entertainment and all the upper class wants is a good show. It seems as the ruling class sees the 12 districts as animals for entertainment, like dog or cockfights. They treat the lower class as dirt or pawns. This class values getting rid of their boredom as they live in luxury and have to work for nothing in their lives.

for instance, that during the time that the aristocracy was dominant, the concepts honor, loyalty, etc. were dominant ....(no explanation needed)
