Music, to me, is only definable as expressing emotions, meaning, or beauty through the use of various instruments and the human voice. To me, there is no "real music," the return of which you might hear one long for as they listen to modern pop music, despite the fact that every generation before them has also longed for the "real music" of the past. I would consider "my music" to range a broad spectrum from pop to alternative rock to Indie, including Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, Marina and the Diamonds, Kesha, and Weezer. I occasionally listen to hip hop and rap, namely Childish Gambino and Watsky. However, for me, its almost disingenuous to name my favorite artists, considering that my approach to music tends to exist on a song-by-song basis, and some of the songs I appreciate the most, such as "Everybody's Dancing and I Want to Die," by Deaf Havana, are by artists whose libraries I've never explored beyond the one song. I listen to music in the background of almost everything I do, in the car, walking to class, doing homework and studying, and also in my leisure time. Listening to music is one of my greatest pleasures. I am quickly emotionally invested in songs, and find music to be one of the best ways to express strong feelings and emotions. Particularly emotional songs often lead me to listen to them on repeat for an extended period of time, just to absorb all of it that I possibly can.

Starting in my junior year, I also joined my school's theatre department, where I performed in our productions of The Addams Family and Les Misérables. I also worked tech for our 2016 One Act Play entry, Amadeus.

Amadeus (1984)

I worked on an abridged production of the play that inspired this movie, and through that experience discovered on of my favorite movies of all time. Amadeus tells the story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and his contemporary the pious Antonio Salieri, who was jealous of his apparently god-given talent. Salieri seeks immortality through music, and works incredibly hard for his music to be remembered, only to be bested time and time again by Mozart. The music of Amadeus makes the movie. The score, written by a variety of classical composers (though it focuses for obvious reasons on Mozart), enhances the emotions of every scene. (Gif from giphy.com)

All I wanted was to sing to God. He gave me that longing... and then made me mute. Why? Tell me that. If He didn't want me to praise him with music, why implant the desire? Like a lust in my body! And then deny me the talent?
