To diagnose an intellectual disability, professionals look at the person’s mental abilities (IQ) and his or her adaptive skills. Both of these are highlighted in the definition of this disability within our nation’s special education law, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
School-aged children are eligible for special education for FREE by public school systems. This is mandated by IDEA!

Assistive technology

Breakdown all activities into small parts. Since students
cannot digest a single or complex topic easily, it is
appropriate to divide the materials into sections and each
taught at a time.

Model, illustrate, and explain every step in a process or
new activity. This will not only make it clear, but it will
allow a student to remember what they learnt a long time
ago.

Employing reward in order to reinforce appropriate
learning behavior by student

Use as much additional practice and assessment as
possible to ensure maximum mastery of concepts.
