It has a lot of small corridors and doors. The castle seems very closed off from the rest of the world with its dark windows and surface. You also get the idea that the person living inside the castle has closed himself off from the world around him: “Then there was the sound of rattling chains and the clanking of massive bolts drawn back. A key was turned with the loud grating noise of long disuse, and the great door swung back”. It is used to build the emotional intensity of the characters, as well as creating tension to the plot. At the same time, it creates an atmosphere of suspense in the reader. Almost everybody has heard of the novel, and therefore know that Dracula is a blood-eating vampire. There are also some hints that explain that be isn´t a normal human being. He is very hairy, has long claw looking nails, has a horrible breathe and is very strong. At first glance, Jonathan thinks that Dracula is the same driver that brought him to the castle.  It would explain why the driver disappeared when they arrived to the castle, and why it took so long time for Dracula to open the door for his guest.
