]]> 2017-02-17 16:11:48 UTC https://padlet.com/kyle_pekurney1/ky2woo3hv9dc/wish/154624966 https://padlet.com/kyle_pekurney1/ky2woo3hv9dc/wish/154631158 Introductory Lesson, so "Beginning" criteria is probably what needed to be played here.  (Not a bad thing, that's just where the lesson was.)  Teacher lecture from overhead, students taking notes.  Prior knowledge from students was good.  Good student answers to questions.  I liked their understanding of the cause and effect of why the north would need more travel routes (or something like that... :) )   

I liked your connection of the 1860 Lincoln election to today.  Lots of great comparisons, and the kids seemed to get it.  Good questioning - what do we do when we disagree with our President now, since we can't leave like they did back then?  Students wrote their responses, and turned/talked to each other about them.  Good intro to discussion about "The Wall" - we left before we could hear the discussion, but saw the question for students to answer (Why would people support it? Why would others oppose?).   I bet there was some lively discussion after we left.  The topic was definitely relevant to today's political climate.  It was hard for me not to chime in.  :)

In a nutshell:
Meaningful work - Beginning.  Since it was an introductory lesson, the info was very structured.
Authentic Resources - Beginning (Same thing - introductory lesson)
