The CPI was a committee created to sway public opinion. They worked alongside other government organizations at the time, but mainly focused on producing propaganda. The CPI was important because American spirits needed to remain good. Americans on the homefront were needed to help with the war efforts. The CPI specifically targeted these Americans, in hopes to persuade them to be pro war.
(World War One. Textbook Module, www.washougal.k12.wa.us/teacher/scott.boothby/ TextbookMODULE16.pdf.

The Espionage Act was a law created to stop a fear of spying in America. It was a law that made spying illegal. This law ended up creating negative tension towards German Americans. Many German Americans became suspects of spying and were arrested along with assaulted.
(World War One. Textbook Module, www.washougal.k12.wa.us/teacher/scott.boothby/ TextbookMODULE16.pdf.

The Sedition Act was created because there were groups of people against the war efforts. They spoke out that they didn’t like what the government was doing and they didn’t want America to be in the war. The Sedition Act made it illegal for them to speak out against the government, and it caused a lot of controversy.
(World War One. Textbook Module, www.washougal.k12.wa.us/teacher/scott.boothby/ TextbookMODULE16.pdf.

Schenck was arrested for handing out anti-war pamphlets. The case went all the way up to the Supreme court. After the court reviewed his case and trial, they declared the Sedition Act as unconstitutional. This Act violates the first amendment, specifically the freedom of speech.

This poster is used to get the American people in support of rationing and using victory gardens. America needed to send for overseas, that way the soldiers would have good morale and remain strong in the fight. A lot of young men were sent overseas. This poster targets the family members of these soldiers, in hopes that they will support the cause and be willing to send food overseas. The government doesn’t want the soldiers to go hungry.(Cook, Jia-Rui. This propaganda poster illustrates that American would “perish” if they didn’t purchase Liberty Bonds. It even shows the Statue of Liberty telling people they need to purchase a bond. This poster is very patriotic with the red and blue along with the drawing of the Statue of Liberty.
(Cook, Jia-Rui. Women had a large role in the war, not just through the Red Cross, but also through working in factory jobs. Women were never on the front lines, but some were shipped overseas to care for injured soldiers. It led people to hate and fear Germany even more. One four minute man spoke about Germany spying on the American people. It led American to be even more pro-war. They were only given four minutes to speak so every word counted.
