         <title>My &quot;aha moments&quot;</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>With the first article I read, I think something that really stood out to me ("aha moment") was point #3, "mindfulness helps us manage students we find difficult." In one of my periods, I have a student that constantly interrupts me. I have to pause many, many times throughout the period and remind him of the classroom expectations. He's a VERY extroverted student, but I never really sat back and wondered why he actually feels the need to constantly be talking, commenting, or interrupting. I think by reflecting on that for some time and having a deeper conversation to answer the "WHY" would be beneficial. Being mindful in this situation would allow me to extinguish any feelings of frustration and him feel like he is heard and understood in my classroom.</div><div><br>The second "AHA" moment that I had was from the second article. I follow a pretty laid-back routine in my classroom: check-in, journal, funny video, independent reading, synchronous instruction, and asynchronous activity. As I was reading the article, I realized that maybe I stop and chat with my students sometimes or let them play review games on blooket, but do I stop and just breathe with them for a little? I think that an important thing for me to do, like this article talks about, is to actually stop sometimes and just breathe before refocusing and continuing forward. A quote I chose from the article to back up my thoughts is, "In 2015, researchers at the University of British Columbia found that fourth-and fifth-grade students that participated in a 12-week mindfulness program had higher levels of attention, better retention, and 15 percent higher math grades than their peers." It's incredible that doing something so simple can have such significant results on students.<br><br></div>]]></description>
