The taxes were high for the people in that third estate, they had to do military service and they didn't have a voice in government. There was also famine in the farming grounds so they didnt have enough food for everyone. Three Estates: They were the people of France that were seperated in three goups. First Estate was the clergy, second estate was the nobility and the third estate were everyone else.
Old Regime: There was an unfair tax system, there was no equality and there was an absolute monarch.
King Louis XVI: He was a weak leader and he wasnt interested in becoming king.
Natural Rights: John Locke started the idea of natural rights. He believed people were born equal and had natural rights: life, liberty and property.
