In the 1960s greasers wore leather jackets and jeans. In the book, the Outsiders they also wear these things. Dally had a jacket that resembles something like that. Ponyboy and all the others also always wore jeans. Those two things are therefore similar.

Back in the !960s the wealthier families had cars such as Mustangs, and Camaros, and lastly Road runners. In the book Randy a soc and his best friend Bob always drove around in a Mustang, and the greasers referred to it as a "tuff" car. Cherry also has a car similar to this. These two things are similar as well.

In the book the boys do some gymnastics on occasion, and they also play around with a football for some of the time. Back in that time and day though baseball was a very famous sport, and many people played it. In the book they had no mention of anyone playing baseball at all. Soccor was also played but not as often, and that was not mentioned in the book either. That is one big difference.

There were many tvs in the 1960s and in the mid 1960s color tv shows even came out and soon became very popular. In the beginning of the book it mentions Ponyboy going to a drive- in movie. He had no mention of tv shows though even though he says that he digs movies more than anyone else in his group. The only time anyone ever hears anything about a tv is when they watch the news, and Ponyboy doesn't even watch that.

Back in the 1960s it is said that for women, gloves were a necessity to wear. When Ponyboy met Cherry and Marcia he described them for us. He did not say that they wore gloves. As teenage girls, and ones who care about what others think. it would be more than likely for them to keep up with fashion trends. They were not wearing gloves apparentaly when he met them at the drive-in. This was not the normal case back then.

Back in the 1950s and 1960s drive-in movies were a big hit. Many liked to go there for a few hours and see a movie, or two. In the book they do this too. Pony right at the beginning says how he loves the movies and was just coming out of one at that very moment. He also went later on with the rest of the gang and they even saw some more people from school there. Many people in this book went to drive-in movies just like real life.

S.E. Hintons use for history

S.E Hinton uses history in her book in order to have a climax. This is true because she uses greasers and the socs hatred towards each other to have a way to make a climax. That climax would have to be when a greaser kills a soc because they are coming and attacking them. In history there were more poor people who were called greasers. The wealthier people made fun of them. That created a type of rivalry. In the book Bob and his gang jumped people like Pony and Johnny just for the fun of it. When it happened and one of them was drowning Johnny killed the soc that was attacking them. So all in all the author uses the history of greasers to have the climax in her book of them attacking each other to the extreme.
