One of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's contribution to forensic science was his famous detective, Sherlock Holmes, debuted in 1887 in "A Study in Scarlet," the first of 4 novels that Arthur had wrote on the character. The success of the Sherlock Holmes novels were almost immediate and lasted until the last book "The Final Problem," published in 1893. Arthur's work both in the medical and literary fields really brought forensic science into the lime light for the first time, sadly his newfound fame really hindered his more scientific advancement in forensic pathology and ophthalmology.
