Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born May 22, 1859, Edinburgh, Scotland—died July 7, 1930, Crowborough, Sussex, England. The second of ten children born to Charles Altamont and Mary Foley Doyle. Arthur completed seven years of Jesuit education in Lancashire in 1868. After an additional year of schooling in Feldkirch, Austria. The success of the Sherlock Holmes novels were almost immediate and lasted  until the last book "The Final Problem," published in 1893. Sir Arthur Conan was knighted for writing a pamphlet which justified British actions during the Boer War. Doyle initially wanted to refuse the Knighthood. Arthur killed off Holmes the same year his father died, and then subsequently brought Holmes back 10 years later do to popular demand. Doyle ran for British parliament twice, once in 1900 and then later in 1906, but never won.
