Definition:
Appeal to authority is most used when celebrities are used in a commercial or used to promote a product, service, or brand. Regular people will see a celebrity advertising or promoting a brand, product, or service and automatically want to involve themselves with it because of the celebrity

Connection:
In this video it features Micheal Jordan, the greatest basketball player of all time doing a commercial for Gatorade. This is part of the famous Gatorade Ad campaign "Be Like Mike". This is very misleading as some people who watch this commercial will believe if they drink gatorade they will ultimately "Be Like Mike"

I am using Post #2 Appeal to Authority

Define the problem:
Gatorade is trying to sell the fact that if you drink their product you will be able to "Be Like Mike"

Describe the source:
It is a commercial for Gatorade, they are not lying as Gatorade will help your energy stay high as you are playing basketball which will help you to perform better. But, drinking Gatorade yourself will not make you "Be Like Mike"

Evaluate Evidence:
Micheal Jordan is the best basketball player of all time and almost a name that everyone knows. In the time of this ad everyone wanted to be like Micheal Jordan so gatorade took advantage (smartly) and created the campaign "Be Like Mike". Gatorade is a good drink to have while putting out extreme amounts of energy to keep that energy up. But unfortunately the drink won't make you be like Micheal Jordan or have the life he had.

Recognize Assumptions, Emotions, Biases:
By getting Micheal Jordan, Gatorade is trying to get your emotions and biases by thinking that they are the best drink and that you should buy their product.

Synthesize Evidence, Identify Alternatives:
Alternative 1: Gatorade brought on Micheal Jordan in hopes it would boost their stock and sky rocket their brand recognition across the world, while putting across false hope to their audience saying you can "be like mike".

Alternative 2: Gatorade wanted to promote how much their drink can help with your performance and got Micheal Jordan actually believes their product helps him perform.

Select best alternative:
I feel that although Gatorade is proven to help with your performances they did abuse their own campaign of using Micheal Jordan and the slogan "Be Like Mike" to convince customers that if they buy their product you will be able to be like Micheal Jordan.
