  •  Born June 10, 1940, Margaret Jean Harmon grew up in Welch, West Virginia, in the Appalachian Mountain. She married Watson Douglas and became Watson Jen.
  • She has a bachelor's degree in nursing in 1964
  • She earned A master of science in nursing in psychiatric and Mental health nursing in 1966.
  • A Ph.D. in educational psychology and counseling in 1973, all from the University of Colorado at Boulder. 
  •  From 1983 to 1990, she was Dean of University of Colorado School of Nursing and Associate Director of Nursing Practice at University Hospital.
  • She is the founder of the original Center for Human Caring in Colorado
  •  Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing; past President of the National League for Nursing.
  • Founding member of the International Association in Human Caring and International Caritas Consortium. 
  • She is the Founder and Director of the non-profit foundation, Watson Caring Science Institute.
  •  Author/co-author of over 30 books on caring
