We are proposing to go to elementary schools (4th, 5th grade) and present the topic to them and hold an assembly. We can also do workshops with elementary school teachers to show them different ways how to do hands-on activities with the students involving student engagement in the classroom. This provides a way to directly talk to the teachers and students about how to get involved in the classroom. It can show students what’s right and wrong and what not to do/what to do in the classroom. We willset up a day to go to some elementary schools in Wake County and have these discussions/workshops with them.

We are proposing the introduction of a mental health curriculum in public schools for grades 6-12. This curriculum will educate students about mental health and its importance while also providing essential resources, such as connecting students with local professionals and increasing the number of mental health staff within schools.

We are proposing to either create a legislative campaign outlining the issues public schools face and advocate for better funding and support to help alleviate these issues or create a website for finding grants for educators/schools.

When it comes to standardized testing, we can establish student representatives within a school board and get votes from students from multiple districts to get the student body's opinion on it and how it affects them.

We chose this action because a hands-on approach is the best. This gives the students a voice regarding the burden of standardized tests. This also allows non-students/parents/school board members to understand where these kids are coming from and how these tests influence and affect their well-being. This will also spark real change in school systems faster.

By the end of the year/semester, we aim to get a student representative into the school board to represent our students. This is a great way to get the student's views out to the public,

We will work as a team to get a student representative on every schoolboard in North Carolina counties.

The action we will take is to create an institutional policy change in order for there to be a decrease in access disparity due to social standing. We chose this action and topic because we all have a passion for inclusion and want less discrimination in schools. If we introduce an Institutional policy change this could reach the majority of schools as well as the school boards for the counties. This is the best way to tackle the prominent issue of economic inequality/ discrimination because it would allow for change to actually appear in the schools.

Our Timeline:

Propose the plan to the school board
Allow the school board to debate the issue
If the plan is not accepted, revise the institutional policy for reconsideration
Cater to individual schools, not necessarily entire systems

We will also work as a team to get representatives on every school board to push for this change

We are proposing to start creating or encouraging large unions or organized advocacy groups that advocate for teacher salaries and benefits. Future operations could include strikes, rallies, and promotional events.
Teachers often feel like they are on their own and have no power in their school systems. Unions offer advocational benefits that could lead to more pay and benefits that keep teachers in the profession.
Once we gain our degrees and find jobs, we can join unions and promote them until they gain more traction. This could take years to build up, but it is worth the fight.
Nick is going get famous on social media and bring more attention to the teacher shortage/pay issues. Colin is going to take it to the university and professional level to gain more influential union members. Maya and Rachel can host philanthropy events through their sorority connections and teaching connections. Lily is going to work behind the scenes, plan events, and advocate for teacher benefits.

Weekly check-in for parents (with papers that are informative but also easily readable to all) and bi-annually connection time with parents and teachers. Include flexibility and virtual meetings with parents so there is plenty of time and options for parents.
To make sure parents feel a part of their child’s education.
Gradual relationships over the school year with the parents and the educators through papers and meetings.
We all have different identities and knowledge from past experiences to help bring to the table and give ideas on how to help implement our goals. One person will help look into what the school can do to help, what teachers can do, how this impacts the students and parents, and community outreach.
