This appeals to the claim that some villains do not have motives because Alfred says that, “Some men just want to watch the world burn.” If a person does not care about people or any person then there is no leverage. The speaker chose to say this because he wanted to appeal to the emotion of Bruce and wanted to keep him safe.

Logos - “But in six months, we never met anyone who traded with him.”

This appeals to the claim, because Pennyworth was using logos when he realized how long it took for someone to not want the stones to use it for money when they were stolen. Pennyworth said this in the moment because he wanted Bruce to know that after they stole the stones they did not care about the money.

Ethos - “And in their desperation they turned to a man they didn’t fully understand.”

This appeals to the claim that some villains do not have motives because Pennyworth is trying to tell Bruce that he needs to trust him about the people who have no motives. He chose to appeal at this moment because Pennyworth knows that Bruce will believe him if he says it.
