When teachers take time to break down units into digestible bites, students have smaller amounts of information to learn at one given time. This allows students to "digest" the information and get a better understanding of what they are learning. This is a more student focused way of teaching content and allows the teacher to know exactly what concept the student is missing out on.

Preassessment and Post Assessments

When starting to chunk your content information into smaller "bites" or units, its important to plan your unit into an organized manner. Make sure that your lessons make since and students have proper background knowledge of what you are teaching. Before a "chunk" is taught, the teacher should give a preassessment to see what the students already know. This is a good way for the teacher to see how much time they need to spend of that segment of information. They may also use the preassessment to see if the lesson need to be broken into smaller chunks. If the students all pass the pre-test, the unit can be taught in bigger, broader chunks. Teachers can also use preassessment data to see how much improvement was made during the lesson after the post test.

When presenting information in small chunks, technology can be used to enhance the learning process. Google Drive, Prezi, Padlet, or Microsoft Powerpoint can be used to present the lessons to students. Interactive white boards can also be used. Videos on the information can be presented to students. Teachers can also create interactive graphic organizers and games to help the students learn in a hands on manner. Applications such as Quizziz and Kahoot can also be used as a pre-test or formal assessment during teaching.
When implementing technology into your lessons, it would be important to use your pre-test scores to guide the information you are teaching. The teacher should also have all interactive white board activities and presentations prepared when the lesson has started.
