Controversial Jack the Ripper museum opened to protests

The video is about a museum that opened on 12 Cable St, London, UK and this museum is dedicated to all things Jack the Ripper. The community is upset that a museum dedicated to a murder and a psychopath; and is detrimental towards the proud east end working class history. The museum had promised the women in the area that it would be more towards remembering the victims, but instead it was not. Both the protesters and the owner are bias towards there point of view about the museum, the women and the protesters have a point that the museum is in poor taste the way it is setup currently. The shop owner also need to make a profit to stay open and Jack the Ripper sells and attracts more people then just the victims. A comprise between the two would have been the most logical and fair outcome, but it seems like both parties are at odds with no sign of resolution. This is a great example of ideology which is a reason for belief because the community had expectations and goals that the museum was going to be about the victims and remembering them, but instead it was more about glorifying Jack the Ripper.

This is the supposed sketch of how Jack the Ripper would have looked like. Recent discoveries have pointed strongly with evidence towards Jack’s identity being revealed. An item found on the body of Catherine Eddowes had DNA evidence of both Jack and Catherine. The shawl was bought in an auction by a businessman named Russell Edwards; who sought to find evidence, and enlisted a world class geneticist for aid. Using cutting edge technology had identified Aaron Kosminski; a Polish immigrant, as the killer.

Jack The Ripper Unmasked?

This video talk about many things surrounding Jack the Ripper including who he might be, how the shawl fits into the story, and how journalist fuelled the flames. The most interesting finding in video was the journalist in my opinion, and what role they played in all of this. The journalist where driven by selling paper to make money, instead of cooperating with the police to try to solve the murders. This resulted in them juicing up the stories and even printing fake evidence to stir the publics emotions. The most famous part of Jack the Ripper’s legend his name was from a fake letter that a journalist wrote pretending to be the murder and singed off as Jack the Ripper which is how the name was born. The journalist also played the bias that people associate with them which is they have a bias to making money and using evidence that has no source to do so. This is a great example of confrontation bias which is a red flag because the journalist where bias to selling papers and juicing up stores instead of printing the fact and the truth.

Jack The Ripper killer identity revealed - Truthloader

This video is about the writer of Naming Jack The Ripper Russell Edwards book talking about the importance of the shawl and the person he thinks is Jack the Ripper Aaron Kosminski. The author has a bias considering he own the shawl, had the test run a lab of his choice, and used all this to prompt his book. His motivation can easily be to get fame and sell the book instead of finding the truth of who Jack the Ripper really is. I also feel he is to emotionally tied to the whole story, because writing a book takes passions that kind blind the writer especially when its more of fact and fiction for the book. This is a great example of confrontation bias which is a red flag because the writer is bias towards the outcome serving his book and his point of view then just the truth.

From a different source; a great nephew of one of the victims claims he knows the identity of Jack. Former surgeon Wynne Weston-Davies claims that the killer of his great aunt was her estranged husband Francis Craig. It was reported that because his wife returned the prostitution and he grew embarrassed and killed her, and 4 others to cover up his true intent.
A related belief in this case would be emotional connection. The relative of the victim seeks a connection when there isn't evidence of one existing.

This pictures is of the letter “Dear Boss” which was supposedly written by Jack. Though the letter was thought to be a hoax, there was correlative actions described in the letter which happened to victims afterwards. After this letter was made public, many other letter came pouring in. One after the other each seemed to not be written by the same author; and thus they were all flagged as hoaxes. The red flag confirmation bias may be at work with the legitimacy of these letters. Since so many letters and so many hoaxes were circulating during this time, almost all of them were dismissed as fake; even without confirmation.

This website is a giant compiled list of all things Jack the Ripper. It features articles for various related topics including victims, letters, timeline, suspects, and many more. Each article goes in depth into each topic, and uses many points of historical evidence. The one downside of this website is that it doesn't appear to cite any sources, articles, or papers; meaning it could all be of personal opinion, or false entirely. Logically thinking, it makes this as indicative of Confirmation Bias or Proof by Verbosity; there is a lot of writing but not necessarily any valuable substance.

Who Was Jack the Ripper?: 6 Tantalizing Theories

This website tells of 6 different theories that place different people as suspects for being Jack the Ripper. The one I'm going over is Prince Albert Victor. He was second in line to the throne, but died to influenza at the age of 28. It is believed that his syphilis caused him to go into murderous fits of insanity. However being an interesting theory, there was hardly any evidence of him being the suspect, and that he wasn't even in the vicinity. Possible red flags could be suppression by authorities and red herring; if he was guilty the royal family could have easily covered it up. They could have said he wasn't near just to distract from any possible correlation.

The thing that most surprised us was that the name Jack the Ripper originated from the supposed hoax letter sent to the police. The fact that the name could very well be fake, made by a supporter or a con artist, and exist over 120 years later is surprising to say the least.

One of the reason why this topic stood out to us it that is part of a major topic in pop-culture. In a recent video game Assassins Creed, there was a portion of the game that features the character Jack the Ripper; and he is depicted as a true villain.

The most interesting part of our research was that a museum exists for the legend of Jack the Ripper. The downside to this is that there is a great deal of controversy surrounding the museum, as it is dedicated to a murderer, and was used to glorify him rather than the victims.

What we are most likely to remember about this because Jack the Ripper is so embedded in pop culture, and as being one of the most famous murders in recent history whose identity was never confirmed. Still being researched and used in popular media today Jack will continue to hold ours and the attention of the world.

The Whitechapel Murder Victims

This website talks about where the Jack the Ripper murders took place and who each victim was, and it also shows a detailed map of the locations. The Canonical Five which is the most notable part of the website talks about the five women which had been murder by the same hand. These women where also the ones that are believed to be murder victims of Jack the Ripper. The Canonical Five are linked mainly because of the precision and methodology which was carried out in the murders. The bias of these five women being more in the spotlight with even the police saying that there were five victims and five victims only. Acknowledging the other murder less if at all, when in fact more murders had taken place in the area. This is a great example of supersession by authorities which is a red flag because the police use their power and authority to influence which victims get more spotlight and attention to solve that case before others.
