The route is to follow to Pacific High Way from Newcastle to Byron Bay. We will be travelling along the high way for most of the trip, and only exit the highway when going to a rest stop or staying overnight. Our route is direct and safe, as the Pacific Highway is the newest and most direct highway. We will hopefully be able to do the trip in a day, but our overnight accommodation at Coffs Harbour is backup if needed.

Follow King St and Hunter St to Stewart Ave/A43in Newcastle West

7 min (2.3 km)
Head north on Newcomen St towards King St

10 m
Turn left at the 1st cross street onto King St

1.1 km
Turn right onto Auckland St

120 m
Turn left onto Hunter St

1.1 km

Follow Pacific Hwy/A1 to Myocum Rd in Ewingsdale.

Each rest point along the road trip are that of easy access, and are easy to get back onto the high way from. Our rest stops will be for 15 minutes, except for our last one at Grafton, which will only be for 10 minutes. At each point we will pull over in a rest zone or find a cafe or park and public toilets. Then we can all get out and walk around and swap drivers. Both Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour having a designated rest area, so we will definitely be stopping there. As for our other rest areas will at a local cafe or park. Overnight accommodation will be at the matador motor inn at Coffs Harbour only if needed though. The Matador motor inn is just off the highway and affordable

Safety Factors and Legal Requirements during the trip

Having rest points for each driver will massively increase the safety rate of our trip. Seeing as the four of us can drive we will have regular intervals of driving and were we aren't driving, so we will not be fatigued. Seeing as the fastest a p1 driver can drive is 90, we will be a little bit slower then most traffic. Each driver will have to remain calm while driving and obey the legal requirements for a p1 driver.
Some legal requirements for a p1 driver are: Display of p plates- P plate must be visible on the outside of the front and rear of the car.
-Mobile phones- you must not use a mobile phone while driving the vehicle.
-Zero Blood Alcohol Concentration(BAC)- You cannot have any alcohol in you system when driving a vehicle, it is also illegal to drive under the influence of drugs.
-Seat belts - You must ensure all passengers including yourself, are in a seat that is fitted with a seat belt or an approved restraint and each passenger is using the restraint or seat belt.
-Speed limit- you must not drive faster than 90km/h and must observe the speed limit where it is below 90km/h.
