The government can put some advertisements interviewing disabled people and their families so that the general public will realise their feelings and try to include them more in activities. The government can also allow schools to have an exchange with special needs schools so that children will be exposed to the disabled community early and not have a stereotypical impression of the disabled when they grow up tp be adults.

Besides the government, us as individuals can interact more with a disabled Friend and try to include them. We can also try to befriend special needs people when we come across them at places such as the community center. We can also help those we see in need in the public, or defend them verbally against any discrimination in the public.

Q1) Some stereotypes the Indian lady has of the Chinese was that they were arrogant because of her own experiences in school and the Chinese boy thought that Indians were scary.

Q2) Some barriers we have is that some schools are Chinese schools, and the schoolchildren dont have much exposure to befriending other people of different races and interacting with them.

The challenges the elderly face are stereotypes of all of them being frail and weak, thus having mobility issues. There is also the stereotype of them being very forgetful, as they might suffer from dementia. Also, as they are old, they might not have jobs and have to depend on their family or the government to survive. There will also be a language barrier because when they were young, they were not exposed to different cultures and their languages.

Our community partners is APSN Chaoyang, an association for persons with special needs. We think that they do not get many opportunities to interact with the public. The students also have some trouble communicating with us as verbally. The students do not know how to commute via public transport as they usually go to school by school buses or private transport.

They might get excluded from activities and children of their age might bully them and mock their disabilities if they don’t understand. Although people are more open minded now, they might still unknowingly exclude them.
