Mao's goals had major effects on China's economy and how the government controlled it. First off they had a lot of challenges to overcome. China had a very large population and a very small amount of land and resources that could be used for things like farming or factories. China's weather conditions did not help the economy grow as the results of certain storms can be deadly and costly.

Agriculture and farming have always been a big topic as they deal with food. China's land was all privately owned, there fore the owners set production rates. Mao did not like the idea of that. He took all of these existing farms and combined them to make bigger farms and turned them into, "Collective Farms" these farms were owned by the government and employed many citizens. There pay was a share of the crop the rest went to the government. Doing this allowed the government to control all aspects of farming thus controlling a large part of the economy. They could now control production rates, etc. This was China's first major step in becoming a command and government controlled economy.

As stated before this gave the government access to the food supply of the country and control over a large part of the Chinese economy. They controlled how much food people got, how much food was made, etc. This again was there first major step into a command and government controlled economy.

The Great Leap Forward was a action put into affect by Mao. This put the people of China into "Communes" they were groups of up to 20,000 working Chinese that were guaranteed a job. Most of witch were put into a different project. For example, Farming, Building, Infrastructure, etc. This turned out to be a excessively surprisingly large fail. The citizens did not put forth enough work as they knew no matter what worth effort/ethic they put in they would receive a job. They also took millions off of farming projects and placed them on secondary infrastructure projects, building schools, bridges, etc.
