I think one thing that is often useful is getting to know new cultures and exchanging ideas with other/foreign people. You can make new contacts and open up new paths. Globalization also makes it important to think outside the box. Even though Guadeloupe is part of Europe, it is outside Europe - the people live differently and the influences are different. That's why I find it exciting to see which influences are European and which are not. So that you can better understand the culture and the needs of the people here.

Yesterday I learned that the journey is the destination. That you have to work together on different levels for international learning. I believe that if you keep in mind the fact that people only protect what they love, then it is all the more important to open up the world to children at an early age so that they feel responsible for it.

I think it's a wonderful idea to compare multiculturalism to nature, because with its multitude of species it beautifully illustrates how different species can live next to each other and be mutually beneficial. What I take from today are two ideas. 1) The simple idea of reducing things to 100 for comparison because it's easier to grasp. 2) The global citizenship themes, skills and outlooks. When writing projects, I have obviously used these themes, but not in a systematic way. I believe the use of the themes as goals of a project, the skills as ways to achieve these aims and both combined becoming a way to produce the oulooks is a really simple and understandable structure and can be used in any project.

Taking a course based in Guadeloupe makes the participants think more about identity and belonging, because with its complicated history, it makes a person like me, coming from a nation state in Europe, realise what it's like to live in a place where history (and skin colour) still determines who is who in the society. I don't think (but I may be mistaken) it's something one can see so clearly anywhere in mainland Europe.
