A typical Bar Mitzvah takes place at the age of 13 and in the book of Psalms, it is said that a person's life span is 70 years. Someone that is able to live beyond those 70 years, enough to reach the age of 83, is now at the point of reaching his or her "second bar mitzvah." For this ceremony, the man or woman aged 83 reads once again from their Torah portion in synagogue and celebrates with family and friends.

In recent years, an ancient Hasidic tradition has become popular: to hold a Tu B'Shvat Seder. This is a special meal, which involves grape juice, grains and all kinds of fruit and it follows a set order, just as we see in the Passover seder.
