1. I would use this as a scientific vocabulary center. Each time an unfamiliar word appears, we would break it down and organize it into our word wall.

2. The word wall would be used as a studying resource. I would have each student go over each word listed and have them explain to me what the meaning is, along with the picture.

3. This would be an interactive word wall. New words can be added or taken away depending on the unit that we are currently working on. Words may "graduate" off the wall and into our brains forever! It would be fun to even have a small graduation ceremony for the words we now know.

4. I think a great way to utilize the word wall if I were ever to need a substitute for the day, have the students teach the sub about the words and their meanings. They get to be the teacher!

5. This does not only have to stay as a scientific word wall, I would also transform it into other themes, depending on what we are learning in the classroom or what may be going on outside of the classroom. (Holidays, Names, Historical Figures)

• Have the students get involved! It is a resource for them.

• Choose words intentionally.

• Have a theme, make it fun!

• Add and/or take away words as needed!

Don't:

• Make the word wall and then never refer back to it.

• Choose words that are too challenging or too basic for the grade level.
