Consumers may over order and unable to finish their food.
Producers and Suppliers may throw away edible food just because they may not sell or meet its standard.
Store and Restaurant may over prepare food and throw away if there is no order instead of letting their employees eat it or giving it away to people in need.
In 2019, Singapore generated around 744 million kg of food waste. That is equivalent to 2 bowls of rice per person per day, or around 51,000 double decker buses.

- The government can then charge restaurants (especially buffets) for the food waste (excess food) they generate at the end of the day.
- Government can redistribute excess/unsold food to the needy or use it as animal feed
- Collect wasted food from food outlets as compost, to produce biogas (methane, hydrogen) for other uses
