Description:
This image captures the handlebar of a shared bicycle integrated with a QR code based unlocking system. Beyond its simplicity lies a powerful example of smart urban mobility. With just a smartphone scan, users can seamlessly access transportation without the need for keys, cards, or physical interaction with attendants.

Why It’s Smart:
This system exemplifies how digital transformation meets urban sustainability. By embedding IoT functionality into public infrastructure, it enables efficient resource use, reduces emissions, and supports a cashless, contactless, and highly scalable user experience. It reflects the shift from ownership to access a hallmark of smart cities embracing convenience, connectivity, and environmental consciousness.

With CCDs getting hotter and hotter, everyone wants to have one to get out their films, especially when travelling. Because ccd cameras come out particularly good, some even do not need to retouch the picture again.

Why it is smart:

The device is ‘smart’ because it provides a platform for travellers to rent a camera in the scenic area, that is, to take pictures, and then return them after the photos are taken.

Description:

This is a 'smart' system where users can order food before arriving to the shop, so that they don't have to wait for the que anymore. By the time they arrive, their order will be ready to pick up.

This system is incredibly convenient and impressive to me. One of the things I appreciate most is the freedom it gives—I can take my time selecting my drink without feeling rushed or pressured by people waiting behind me. Everything is clearly laid out, with visual illustrations that make it easy for foreigners like me to understand, even if they don't speak the language. It also makes the process smoother for the staff, allowing them to focus on preparing orders rather than managing a crowd.

There's no pushing or shoving—everything operates in a calm, orderly manner. What's even better is that I can place my order remotely, from another location, and simply come to pick it up when it's ready. I don’t have to physically wait in the store, which saves me time and adds a level of convenience I really appreciate.

Why it is smart:

Overall, I find this system in China to be incredibly smart and enjoyable. It combines technology, efficiency, and user-friendliness in a way that enhances the whole experience of ordering drinks or food. It's a great example of how thoughtful design can improve daily life—not just for locals, but for visitors like me as well.

In material science, researchers study spider silk to develop ultra-strong fibers for medical sutures, protective clothing, and even future biodegradable cables. In popular culture, the spider web became an iconic symbol of agility and creativity, most famously embodied in Spider-Man’s web shooters, which represent adaptability and clever problem-solving in action.

The spider web teaches us that true intelligence doesn’t always look like technology or machines.

This network prevents erosion, stabilizes slopes, and protects riverbanks from washing away during heavy rains and floods.

Why are tree roots smart?

Tree roots are smart because they adapt to their surroundings by growing toward water and nutrients while also reinforcing the soil. Their interlocking structure forms a living support system that repairs itself and remains strong even when the ground shifts or faces harsh weather.

Applications

Engineers have studied tree roots to design better ways to stabilize soil around infrastructure like drainage pipes and culverts. By mimicking root networks, they develop “living reinforcement” techniques—planting vegetation near waterways and embankments to prevent soil collapse and flooding. This natural approach helps protect roads, bridges, and neighborhoods, making construction safer and more sustainable.

The glasses respond to gestures, head movements, or voice input and create the sensation of interacting with floating digital screens in real-world space.

Why It’s Smart:
The Rokit AR Glasses are smart because they break free from the limitations of physical screens. Normally, we are constrained by the fixed size of phones or monitors.
