How would you describe your level of interest in current events/politics? 1-9-18

I would say that, for a teenager, I have a higher than average interest in current events and politics. I do not know a lot about the set-up of government, but I do pay a lot of attention to what is going on in the world and why. I like to know who is in office and whether or not they are the best for the community and I appreciate knowing about all of the world's current events to see if there is anything that I can do to make the situation better. I have just always been very invested in making the world a better, kinder place and I believe that the government is responsible for making that happen sometimes, so I like to be aware of what is going on in politics and in the world!
What are your expectations of this class? 1-9-18
My expectations of this class are to learn more about the structure of government and who specifically are the people that are apart of the government. I expect to learn a lot about local government, which is where a lot of my information is lacking. I think that for some of the information, I'll remember from 8th grade history, but I expect to learn more advanced material. I'm hoping that we do spend a little bit of time discussing current events if they are relevant to the course because I learn best through real-life examples and by actually applying the information we will be learning.

I saw a ton of jokes about this tweet right after he posted it, and I do agree that our own President shouldn't have to reiterate that he is not only smart, but stable as well; it should be expected and unquestioned.

Pre/Post Opinion on Tariffs 1-26-18

Pre opinion: As of now, I know that Tariffs are a tax and that Trump plans on putting a tariff on solar panels. Right now I think that I disagree with that tariff because it is making it more expensive to get solar panels for renewable energy.
Post: I still agree with my previous statement that I don't support this tariff. While I do now know that it will not have dire consequences because it is promoting companies in America, I don't support the motives behind the tariff because I don't think it matters where the solar panels come from as long as America is taking initiatives to protect our planet.

I really enjoyed hearing this podcast on R.B.G. and Sandra Day O'Conner. I appreciated the ally ship the two of them had as they were the only two women on the Supreme Court during their time. I agree with the narrator that I loved that Sandra Day made an excellent first women on the court, and that R.B.G. followed her with her excellent wit and intelligence. Both of them made it without the opinions of men getting in the way of their successful careers.

I thought that the performance was better than reading it because of how long the sentences are and it is easier for my ears to keep up with rather than my eyes/mind. I think I better comprehend it when I am listening to it.

My favorite part of the Declaration of Independence was when it goes over all of the injustices caused by the King because it clearly lays out why they want/need independence.

I really enjoyed listening to both of those audio blogs! I think the one that stuck with me was about how the teacher changed his student's life and helped him get through adversaries that came from racism. I think that this ties into civics because the teacher mentioned that life is all about helping people that you don't even know. I believe that our government is rooted in helping strangers, which is why we pay taxes, and I agree with this wonderful philosophy that people need to to help people no matter our differences.
