         <description><![CDATA[<div>For my fourth grade lesson on division, I introduced the topic by showing the read aloud video of the book, "The Doorbell Rang" by Pat Hutchins. I had cookie crisp cereal to use as manipulatives. As the story moved along, we practiced splitting the amount of cookies by the number of people in the story.  After the video was over, we discussed how we took our total and divided it by the number of people. Then, we discussed real life situations where we divide items. This hook took less than 5 minutes, but the students were engaged and ready to learn how to divide using manipulatives. They were able to connect what we were about to learn to their everyday lives. - Kristin Gerhart</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I am always searching different ways to expose my students to high frequency words. They need to have as <br>much exposure as possible. I frequently use shaving cream on the table, and have students “write” words on the table. This year I have started writing the current tricky words on the bottom of a Dixie cup. The students say the words as they stack the cups. It’s<br> a new and different technique that my students have been asking to do! A great and quick warm up that starts the lesson with a challenge and a smile!<br><br></div>]]></description>
