This team-building game is flexible. Simply divide students into teams and give them equal amounts of a certain material, like pipe cleaners, blocks, or even dried spaghetti and marshmallows.

Then, give them something to construct. The challenge can be variable (think: Which team can build the tallest, structurally-sound castle? Which team can build a castle the fastest?).

You can recycle this activity throughout the year by adapting the challenge or materials to specific content areas.

Although I've always had trouble with spotting an item out of an array, with a little help from team members -- "bottom right!!" -- I was able to do it much more quickly. After a brief discussion around some simple strategies (ask for help and give help as needed), it was satisfying to see our improvement in the second round.

Drawbacks: I can picture this being a fun team-building exercise for kids. In my opinion, though, it's kind of a silly activity for adults. It promotes teamwork in a way that every team member can succeed.
