I remember reading this book with my mom, so it brings back sweet memories of my childhood.


The illustrations help you understand the book better because you see the child grow older and better picture what is going on in the text. You can see the emotions of the boy through the illustrations, as well as the selfless nature of the tree reflected in the drawings. The leaves come down to form what looks like an arm, making the tree look more like a person.


The lesson in this book is to love others unconditionally. To love them selflessly, and at great personal cost. This is true love. It is not a love that is fragile and easily broken, but one that is steady over time.
