Plants are a necessity in life. They provide oxygen and protection. This is a picture of my apartment complex where plants are in abundance. Some may view lush plants as just something nice to add to a view, but the role they play a much more important role. Humans constantly live side by side with plants. We also help plants, by carrying their seeds and planting them in various places. It's a sort of mutualism. I used this image because I feel like it encapsulates this theme.

I decided on taking picture of cars because this is a system of transportation we humans created. This for of transportation is efficient, but it is not sustainable. Most cars rely on gas gathered by fossil fuels. We continue to mine for fossil fuels all the while continuing to pollute our air. Recently hybrid cars have become a new car on the road that are able to run off electricity. There is still a ways to go before they reach efficiency to levels where consumers will actually buy them, but they're a start in the right direction.

Everyday there is more people on this earth than there have ever been before. Pretty obvious, I know, but we aren't really coming up with ways to deal with this matter effectively. We are constantly demanding more from this Earth that it can provide in such a short amount of time. This is a picture I took of the line of people waiting to get Popeye's new Chicken Sandwich. I cant imagine how large the demand for chicken has been recently if this is how many people are constantly waiting to gt their hands on one. Of course this is on a much smaller scale than other problems out there, but it is a problem nonetheless. I chose this photo because seeing this line made me think of this theme and I chuckled.

I chose to take this picture because it reminded me of an article I had read recently amount how urbanization is decreasing the amount of runoff into watersheds. This jogged my memory about all the problems man-made drainage systems have caused. They often carry whatever they pick up as they make their way to the system such as garbage and other chemicals caused by humans. These systems often lead directly to the ocean, in turn harming the aquatic life there.

Urbanization is becoming the norm. More and more people are moving to cities for the accessibility that comes in living in one. This is a picture I took of the source, which is a hot-spot for teens to hang out with its variety of shops and restaurants. This place is is the epitome of of an urban area. New shops are constantly being added and it is very modern in design. I chose this photo because I was with my friends and it made me realize how quickly the world is progressing due to this location's modernity.

I took this picture because it shows ways we are contributing towards environmental solutions in everyday activities. Our schools have both plastic and paper recycling bins that students and teachers use daily. By decreasing the amount of waste we put out, especially in a school setting where paper is used for almost anything. is really helpful to the environment. We as a society should try to help lessen our negative impact on the environment in anyway possible whether it be a big or small change we do.

The "Precautionary Principle"

Cigarettes are a prime example of something once thought to cause no serious harm. Science and time progressed though and the link between cancer and addictive nicotine was made with cigarettes. Now people are not allowed to smoke as freely as they were, due to the harm it can cause to others. Signs are now in place to prohibit smokers from doing so in public places where others are susceptible to harm from their actions. I chose this picture because it made me think of how there was a time in which smoking was an acceptable form of recreational drug use that depicted wealth and such. Now it is frowned upon, as it should be.
