Afraid, because he is constantly afraid that he will be killed by the Nazis. Trapped, because he has no way of escaping the concentration camps without being shot. Lost, because he keeps being bounced around between concentration camps, with no family and no friends.

If Yanek had a phone, some of the apps he would have would most likely be, maps so that he knew where he was and where he was going, health so he could monitor his health, contacts so he can make calls, messages so he can send messages, a web browser so that he can search things up, clock so that he can know what time it is, and translate to translate languages that he does not understand. Just to name a few.

The Nazis have power in this book. The invade Poland during World War II, and every jew is either killed or taken to the camps. They kill jews for their own enjoyment, and the ones that survive are worked to death, or starvation. They abuse their power way too much in this book.

I give this book five stars. This is because this book tells a lot about the horror of what the holocaust was, and shows this boy's terrible yet compelling story. (This book is based off of a true story). It shows what the Nazis did to people for no reason but that they were different. It is important for us to know about this so that history doesn't repeat itself.

One book that they would like would be Grenade, also by Alan Gratz. It is a book about a boy named Hideki who is an Okinawan living on Okinawa when the Japanese take it over as a defending point against the Americans during World War II. He is trying to find his family through the blood, war, and pain. Another book that they might like is Refugee, another book by Alan Gratz. It is a book that features 3 stories in one. Josef is a jewish boy escaping Nazi Germany in the 1930s. Isabel is a Cuban girl escaping Castro's regime in 1994. Mahmoud is a Syrian boy running from the conflict in Syria in 2015. All of them lose family, are constantly in danger, and witness unthinkable things. Another book that they might like is Projekt 1065, also by Alan Gratz. It is a book about a boy named Michael, he and his parents are spies living in Nazi Germany, during World War II. Michael is part of the Hitler Youth, and his family's jobs are to help downed allied airmen and send The Allies coded messages with the locations of Nazi Factories. One day a boy in Michaels Hitler Youth group shows him secret blueprints to projekt 1065, and to get the blueprints he has to go deeper, and he may have to sacrifice everything.
