Seasonal variability can lead to crops and soil to be cost reductive in farms leading to farms especially smaller farms to be financially tighter when it comes to extra costs (or what is seen to be extra costs). The initial cost of Agtech combined to intense environmental factors is not feasible to growers. Perhaps a subsription service or like afterpay for growers could alleviate such barrier.

With the worlds recent focus on reaching sustainability markers it is often the case that agriculture that fulfils these goals is more expensive. Also less sustainable options may be damaging to the soil and climate in the long run even though they may be cheaper or simpler.

Grain farmers could develop contracts with buyers, and be payed on a contract basis rather than based on the yield they generate. This way it accounts for climate-based variability in yield size. Because with climate variability some yields will be huge while others will be very small.

Possible solutions:

Clear, defined policies - perhaps the GRDC could work with lawmakers in order to clearly outline legislation around agtech such as automation/self driving/AI driven machinery?
Review of industry wide data policies - look at data governance and data standardisation across whole industry.
Provide either alternative industries, for example promotion of industries creating agtech, to employ those who lose work due to agtech.
