Using music can help pupils draw together information from pictures, videos and facts to gain a better understanding of a place around the world. Using Music in Geography can also allow students to make links between the music that is commonly listened to in different countries, and can provide opportunities for students to create their own music based on a country or place.

When planning the history or geography curriculum it is important to think about where the overlaps might be meaningful to  help pupils to achieve a better understanding of the world.

As well as this teaching geography with music offers the opportunity to explore different cultures across the world, which can further link to PSHE and R.E., this embodying a wider curriculum.

It could encourage children to want to learn more about the different styles of music as well as the different places. Additionally if it works well, it could be developed on to using this approach to combine other subjects in a similar way such as art.
