P: I can infer that during the japanese occupation,students had to learn japanese as their first language and it was tough on them 

E: According to online sources,it states that it was a must that student learnt japanese as their first language and during the morning assembly students had to sing the japanese national anthem,students had struggled with it as Japanese can be hard to say.The japanese thought if they had learnt japanese,they could rule over them easier.The japanese also forced the students to burn away their chinese related textbooks and if anyone was caught with it,the japanese would beat them up.


E:However,during the Japanese occupation,many students had to quit school as they could hardly recognise Japanese.They would be better off finding a job and support their family income.

l:i can tell that during the japanese occupation during 1942-1945 it was hard for the students as the japanese forced the students to learn japanese as their first language and this cause students to be upset with the japanese and quit school and find a job

E: For example, 60kg of rice costed around $5. During the Japanese Occupation, most of the people living in Singapore were unable to afford food. As compared to before the Japanese Occupation started, 60kg of rice costed $5000.

P: During the Japanese Occupation, there were limited form of entertainment for the teens.

E: A women recalled that they did not have a radio and there was never any entertainment. Gambling was not allowed. Congregating together was illegal and people were afraid to even talk to one another.  Singaporeans then did little else but sleep. Sometimes they feared even having a light in the house, for fear it might attract a Japanese soldier to enter their home.

E: Therefore we can see that the teenagers were living in fear and there were no forms of entertainment and recreation activities.

L: In conclusion, teenagers leisure and recreation activities were greatly affected during the Japanese Occupation as they were living in fear and prefer to stay at home.

P:i can infer the locals had little involvements and few opportunities for authority as Singapore was governed by British colonial then.

E:according to source,The local people were not given important positions and had no influence or authority on government policies although they were nominated to better represent the interest of local people. The local were mainly non-official members in the Legislative Council. The local were also less privileged as they received lower salary even though they had many years of most valued service and achievement as compared to the British employees. 

Despite the unfair treatment, as Singapore was an active trading port, the people were able to find manual jobs easily at the port and dock. The Chinese worked as coolies, farmers and rickshaw pullers. The Malays worked as boat builders and fishermen. The Indians worked as dock laborers and dhobis. There were still job opportunities available for the multi-racial group before the Japanese Occupation.

E: this shows that the British were treating the locals unfairly by giving the most valued service and achievement locals salary lower than British employees

P:Before the Japanese Occupation, amusement parks such as Happy World catered to the needs of entertainment for people of all ages, especially youths.

E:During the Japanese Occupation, the Japanese turned Happy World into gambling farms.

E: As the notes was just printed out when the government needed more. 
E: Thus the currency turned useless and by the near end of the occupation 100 banana dollars could barely buy a piece of fresh good pork. The issuing off the banana money was meant to help with Singapore financial crisis but It ended up making the crisis worst and the black market flourished even more than it already was. By the end of the occupation,the banana currency has dropped to a near zero is value.
