People have to integrate to their sexuality brain-slot, the differentiation between having a biological sex and identifying ourselves with one.

According to a study of Universidad de Chile, Chile has the most deficient percentages of the execution of proposals given by the ministry of education about sexual education, in comparison with Latin American countries. Gender was one of the topics that were rated as an important one at the moment to teach sexual education, and the result of it was deficient.

It is commonly thought that gender bias affects only female students, however, it is now proved that it affects both female and man at the same point so as to strongly prevail until today.
Gender inequalities are still present in the American Educational system, including students of a variety of gender identities; such as transgender, girls and non-binarian students.
Some teachers tend to get specific expectations for girls and boys producing a certain pattern of behavioural problems in the classroom due to the influence of expectations for the self-esteem and self-conception.

According to the video and the above-given resume, here are some self-reflective questions to answer:
a) Were our teachers different from our opposite-sex classmates?
b) Could we perceive this fact when we were school students?
c) Did that affect who am I today?

Interview - Rodrigo Loyola Language teacher

This interview has as a main purpose to find out the notion of a teacher who already has experience in this profession, and his answers can be useful to prepare ourselves in the action of teaching. The questions and answers are the following:
1) What does teaching means for you?
2) Do you think your role contributes to society somehow? Why/Why not?

3) Do you think your profession has challenges and duties when it comes to social issues? Why/Why not? Which ones?

4) Do you consider gender as a barrier that differentiates students socially ? Why/Why not?

4.1) Do you have a plan or methodology to destroy that barrier? Please explain.

Why it is important to study gender inequality into our national context?
According to the twelfth survey of Centro Regional de Derechos Humanos y Justicia de Género, an 87% of chilean women feels discriminated. The highest levels of gender inequality are perceived by these women at work (88%), in politics (75%), in access to justice (73%), and in the sexual field (71%). Likewise, a 69% said that opportunities are not equal for men and for women. A 86% considers Chile a chauvinist country. If we look for gender inequality within education, according to DEMRE, 44 out of 163 national scores obtained in 2016 P.S.U were women, and in 2015, 7 out of 65.
Gender inequality in Chile exists in most of the daily life fields. One of the most important of these, and where is easily perceived, is education. It is for this reason, that we consider important to study gender inequalities within our national context. We consider as urgent the necessity to reach an educative system that does not discriminate, that enhance equality between capacities among children, that allows them to develop according to their talents and not being limited according to what they should be and do. To reach this is fundamental to produce a change in daily teaching practices, adding new and inclusive educative methods that pursue reflection about gender inequalities in the classroom. Educational psychology is an essential tool to give to the progress of teaching gender equality. Through researches and innovator teaching methods that this discipline gives to the teachers and all the responsible actors of carrying out this labour, the chances to improve statistics about gender inequality increase.

Read the complete survey in here: http://www.humanas.cl/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/ENCUESTA-HUMANAS-PERCEPCIONES-DE-LAS-MUJERES-SOBRE-SU-SITUACI%C3%93N-Y-CONDICIONES-DE-VIDA-EN-CHILE-2017-PRENSA.pdf

Read the complete DEMRE statistics in here:
http://www.psu.demre.cl/estadisticas/documentos-2016-compendio-p2016

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declares that access to a good education is important for getting out of poverty.

A person who receives a formal education is more likely to grow up healthy and have more opportunities for employment. This increases their chance of raising healthy children and supporting them to also get an education. "When all students, both male and female, have equal access to educational opportunities, the results impact future generations." Because providing more equal and greater educational opportunities for students begins in the classroom and with the teacher. A strong teacher is one who treats students fairly and creates an environment in which conditions enable students to feel equally able to take part the class and interactions.

Teachers' actions "can create the appearance of gender bias through unintentional, nonverbal actions. The first step to correcting this problem is to organize your classroom in a way that makes all students feel equal"
To avoid a bias conception in the classroom we will present the following tips or steps:

To establish rules: in order to maintain an ambiance of equality, the teacher can include the students to decide the rules. "It is important to include rules that deal with respecting students, respecting the teacher and participating in class"

Classroom setting plan: the order of the chairs and tables might promote participation in those shy students who barely interact with others.

Regulate expectations: teachers interaction with students influence the level of motivation they may have for their learning as, at the same time, can make that students react only by a positive reinforcement.

Information and quotes taken from:
VOA.
Justification of the chosen topic

As a group, we decided to choose this topic because we consider that it is a social issue as well as an educational issue that needs to be developed to its deepest side in order to reach to more integral and useful conclusion, that can be therefore optimally applied to the educational system in theory and practice in which we are going to work. Because of this, we also think that as we are going to face a new generation of students which is going to be more diverse in terms of gender and knowledge about the topic we need to be more aware and informed about it before starting our work life.

On the other hand, the national context of sexual policies is changing as the needs of the LGBTQ community are changing too. Thus, we as future teachers believe that understanding and providing the proper information for our national context regarding gender and sexual education are key elements that will open the gate of acceptance, inclusion and to avoid issues as LGBTQ discrimination by starting in the classroom.

In addition, we believe that in order to be integral teachers we should be informed to look towards the improvement of pedagogical methods and contents. In order for this to happen we think psychology can be a guide for us to develop adequate methodologies and personalities as people who are going to be continuously interacting with others who are aimed to learn from us not only content itself but also social skills. Therefore, to reach this improvement based on previous material, research is useful and helpful to allow and facilitate the progress of education in the field of inclusion of LGTBQ community. These reasons are fundamental for our decision to choose this topic as we want to contribute with this online magazine to inform people without distinction of age, gender, sex or social status to the understanding of the importance of the conception of gender in education and students’ educational process, supporting our ideas in reliable sources.

During the development of this magazine, we will base our information and publications on the different national and international sources in order to understand the different gender issues in education and society and attempt to come up with different proposes to help teachers and citizens in general in relation to education.

The following questions will contribute to our formation as teachers and to the construction of our own identity as English teachers, and what to do or what methodology use to eliminate gender inequality.
The questions and answers are the following:
1. What does teaching means for you?

2. Do you think your role contributes to society somehow? Why/Why not?

3. Do you think your profession has challenges and duties when it comes to social issues? Why/Why not? Which ones?

4) Do you consider gender as a barrier that differentiates students socially ? Why/Why not?

4. 1) Do you have a plan or methodology to destroy that barrier? Please explain.

Inclusive Activities

As shown in the following video, it is important to plan activities that suit the age of the target audience, more important for little children because the first learnings and experiences build patterns of interaction and ideals for their rest of their lives. So, in order to apply gender inclusive and teaching content we offer some ideas:

To show students a big amount of toys and ask them which one is their favourite. This activity is aimed to psychologically evaluate students perception and inner thoughts regarding gender differentiation so the teacher can use that to analyse how children have been raised and established gender qualities by their parents.

To write in a big paper characteristics that they think most of girls and boys have. This would be the first step and material for the teacher to explain that stigmatization of genders is not something natural but imposed instead.

To make students define their family members into characteristics that they consider as good or bad. This activity is aimed to let students see that a woman or their mothers are and can be strong and beautiful at the same time as well as their fathers and that there is nothing wrong with that.

After watching the video, do you consider that students are reacting positively to gender education? Do you think that they are correctly using the new information? Let us know your answers below.

School and Teachers actions matter!

To fight against a sexist education, school's authorities and teachers play a fundamental role. It is important that every person in the educational system is well trained to teach and show a good example to children and families. The first step is that everyone acknowledges the naturalisation of gender inequalities so as to start avoiding biased treatments in the classrooms. After the notion of equality and diversity is set, more concrete actions need to be taken, such as including the families and planning new methodologies and strategies that are based on gender respect, teaching and support
In some cases, the principal interactions of students are not positively influential for them, affecting their self-esteem and self-concept producing a deficient academic performance. When cases like this one are found in schools, teachers have the role and chance to change that patterns. If they show interest, conduct a research and learning disabilities tests if needed children would start perceiving and experiencing a new way of interaction that may start slowly making the child progress in terms of academic responses, social and individual perception and socialisation.
