First, according to the Ukraine article, it states "The famine was a direct assault on the Ukrainian peasantry, which had stubbornly continued to resist collectivization."
Next, from the Ukraine website, it says "Stalin and his followers were determined to teach Ukraine’s farmers “a lesson they would not forget” for resisting collectivization", which meant giving up their own land to work on government controlled farms.
Lastly, from Stalin's Genocides book, it claims "Stalin ordered that a 'knockout blow' would be delivered to 'some collective farmers and collective farms' that continued to resist requisitioning. On February 19, 1933, he maintained that those who did not work- the so called idlers- deserved to starve."

According to the Famine Genocide in Ukraine Information website, and "Ukraine: opening of secret shines a light on famine repression article" on Gale Student Resources In Context, they indicate that what drove Stalin to start the genocide was that Stalin wanted to "crush" any thoughts of gaining independence, and to put an end to separatism and punish Ukrainians.

My first piece of evidence from the Ukraine information website, it says "the greatest mortality in Ukraine occurred not in its most important grain growing regions, but where Stalin perceived the biggest threat to his power and the most resistance to his goals."
Also, from the same website, it states "Moreover, the famine was meant to deal “a crushing blow” to any aspirations for independence from the Soviet Union by the Ukrainians, 80 percent of whom worked the land."
Fianlly, from the Ukrainian genocide worksheet, it also says "Stalin believed that the peasant landowners known as "kulaks" would be instrumental in any aspiration. He believed any future revolts would be led by the kulaks." Thus he proclaimed that it was necessary to liquidate the "kulaks" as a class and declared the "kulaks" enemies of the people."

My first example explains that Stalin felt his power was threatened so that is why he started the Holodomor Genocide or Ukrainian Famine.
This shows that the famine was created so it could destroy any thoughts of gaining independence from the Soviet Union by the Ukrainians.
Lastly, this piece of evidence explains that Stalin thought that the "kulaks" might be the cause of future revolts, so he wants to execute them all.
