I was aware that these Science/Computer science standards exist! I teach 3rd grade and we are actually getting ready to teach a unit on simple machines before spring break!

I'm working on implementing the Simple Machine standard (3.PS.2). We will be using our Science textbook to teach this as well as hands on experiences.

Students will build a simple machine (ramp) and test it out with a toy car.

3rd grade: Math
3.G.1: Identify and describe the following: cube, sphere, prism, pyramid, cone, and cylinder.

I would use this standard and technology to go on a 3D shape hunt!

I would use this as the check for understanding after reviewing and discussing the attributes of each 3D shape. Students would be in charge of taking their computer around to snap pictures of 3D shapes around the school. They would then put these pictures into a presentation with a slide about each of the shapes. In their slide, they would have to describe the object that is 3D and the attributes of it.

Digital Resources

I learned that there is an Indiana Elearning Pinterest page! I will definitely be checking this out. Our school corporation is 1:1 and we use Elearning. This would be helpful to look for new ideas or tools to use on an Elearning day.

There are several boards that would be useful including the Acceptable Use Policy, Digital Citizenship Resources, and ELL resources to name a few. I can't wait to look more into these boards!

Elearning Day Program

This link on the IDOE would be helpful for teachers to understand Elearning days more. It also has the criteria for being able to have Elearning. I think this would be especially helpful for a new teacher coming into our corporation or really any corporation that utilizes Elearning.

Social Media

I think the Social Media links for Elearning would help me collaborate with other teachers that utilize Elearning. It may create new resources or links for me to try. I also believe it would be beneficial to see how other corporations use Elearning. Are the assignments similar? How much time are students on a specific task? Elearning sometimes feels like it can be very bland or similar each day we have it. This would be especially helpful to look for new ideas when we have consecutive Elearning days.

New Technology!
QUIZIZZ!!!!

This site is SO interactive and fun for the kids! It is a technology component that I currently use. I use this because it is so simple to use and the kids love it. It also allows you to share quizzes directly to Google Classroom. I like this component because I use Google Classroom. Really everything our corporation uses links to Google. The ease of just clicking a couple of times and the assignment already posts is nice.

You can assign these quizzes for students to do on their own or to do them live. They are nice for a quick check for understanding. Also, turning the check for understanding into a game is appealing for students. They don't even know they are practicing a problem or reading a question! It is engaging and the students don't dread doing a task!
