This relates to the difficulty women have had to face to break barriers and rise to the highest court in our country. The playing field leaned heavily in favor of men and Caucasian men in our country. This relates to gender equality and stereotypes discussed in this class.

A few things Pop into my head when I think of racism. Slavery is the first ping that goes off in my head, followed closely by the KKK. We discussed aspects of racism and inequalities in America in week 7.

2. Deviance

Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the National anthem in 2016 to protest racially motivated police brutality. This peaceful protest was meant to shine a light on the different treatment for POC when interacting with the police. This protest ultimately cost him his NFL career. This also relates to week 7's course material.

5. That thing in the desert...

I have been lucky to attend this place twice, and hopefully can attend this year. This is a place to be free of labels, societal pressures, and your real life for a week. Inclusion is my favorite part of this place, you can find your happy somewhere on the Playa. You have to find it. This falls in Chapter 6 and 3.2 group about inclusion and culture.

This image displays stereotypes about Women that are lazy and untrue. This list puts women in a box and doesn't allow them to fulfill their potential. Chapter 6 discussed this under "Group size and structure."

5. Who doesn't benefit from this? Little girls who want to play sports with the boys but still want to be treated as equals.

3. Privilege

This was talked about in the Culture module and groups. The fact that white people have more opportunity given to them compared to POC. This was talked about heavily after George Floyd was murdered.

6. Pride (Deep Question at bottom)

2 Olympians giving the Black Power salute at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico. This was showing pride in black equality on the world stage while civil rights were being challenged back home. This relates to an aspect of the class when it comes to Deviance. This was not a normal thing to see, but it was impactful for many Americans.

4. Who benefits from this? African Americans benefited from this through the representation and promotion of culture. Quest 11

7. Pointlessly Gendered Product (find an example, share the image)

I smoked cigarettes in Nevada when I was 18. I tried a bunch, and these were by far the biggest scam I came across. It's a cigarette, but it has half the tobacco and is made to appear more feminine than a regular Marlboro. They didn't serve a purpose outside of a small head-change and their appearance. That's it! From a gender standpoint, I would have been made fun of in 2005 for smoking one of these because they were geared and made for women. Many items were advertised for women knowing that they were giving half of the actual product that the men would receive at the same price. Smaller and adorable but not practical equaled appropriate for women. Quest 19

9. Some context for the James Baldwin quote in the syllabus

My ENGWR 300 class featured a lot of James Baldwin, and I loved how everything he said was from a real place of experience and pain. He discussed in great detail the plight of POC in America and although confident in his approach, you could hear the pain when he spoke. “One cannot deny the humanity of another without diminishing one's own.”

This states that you cannot oppress someone without also harming yourself.

This photo relates to Stereotypes of young African American men in this country. Trayvon was walking home and was approached and ultimately killed by George Zimmerman. Trayvon was walking in a gated community, and George felt he was suspicious and followed him.
