The author's use of the terms tells us that Annie is very knowledgeable about her interests and has pride in them. We know this as in the passage in paragraph one, it says, "After I read the Field Book of Ponds and Streams several times, I longed for a microscope." This tells us how she was always wanting a microscope to do science and how she was always interested in it. For the tone of the memoir, I feel like it gives a very positive tone. To support the tone being positive, in paragraph fourteen, it says "I had hit pay dirt." This evidence tells us that she is excited about her future as a scientist.
