What country would be the first to actually reach space and what accomplished for them? How did this continue to create competition?

The Soviet Union began to beat the US in the space race when they successfully sent the first man into space. This was a huge loss for the US but it also made them realize that they needed to move much faster if they wanted to beat the Soviet Union in the race. This continued to create competition by pushing the US harder so that they would not lose this race.

Why was president Kennedy’s proclamation of getting a man to the moon so important? What does this have to do with project Apollo?

His proclamation was so important because it inspired many Americans who felt like they wouldn’t win because the Soviet Union was already so far ahead. It restored the US “energy” and it made everyone hopeful for a victory. Apollo was the NASA program that sent the first man on the moon. Kennedy's speech inspired many and also boosted the funds for the Apollo project which let the development to get the first man on the moon move fast enough to be the Soviet Union.

One way was that they wanted to prove that they were superior to the other country and that they were the better country. Another way was that they simply wanted to be the first country to make history and land a man on the moon. Last reason was that they wanted to prove to the citizens that their taxes that were somewhat used to pay for a lot of the space equipment and technology didn't go to waste.

What 3 comparisons could be made in technology in the present to the impact made by the space race?

The space race created many technology differences on the earth such as the satellites that surround the world. These satellites allow for television, weather reporting, navigation and much more. Before the space race it was much harder to get access to television and other things. During the space race NASA invented memory foam so without the space race we wouldn’t have our soft memory foam pillows and mattress. The space race also improved a lot of medical technology such as medical imaging techniques, durable healthcare equipment and more. This made it a lot easier to solve health related issues that would have been a lot more difficult to solve before the space race.
