In the lecture on racism we discussed that racism is a system of advantage designed to uplift Caucasians and suppress anybody of a different race, the quote is saying by being racist and discriminatory you are only diminishing your own humanity and character.

6. This privilege and mindset of entitlement to "medical freedom" led this parent to believe that attacking a teacher would get them the result they wanted with no thought of the consequences.

Deep Questions
7. How does the meaning of this change depending on who is using or observing it?
Due to the fact covid was politicized someone who believes in medical freedom no matter who it affects, will read this and most likely agree with the parents attitude, a person who believes in the science and understands the consequences of not wearing your mask beyond just themselves will be appalled at the parents reaction.

5. Who doesn't benefit from this?
The privilege this parent felt they had will impact the entire community, in how many people will begin to feel why is my kid wearing a mask and it will begin to collectively enrage a group of people, and this attack and the idea that the student shouldn't have to wear the mask, specifically if they were allowed to remove it could have infected individuals that were immunocompromised, or the students could pass covid along to another community member.

Work cited:
https://time.com/6103134/parents-fight-school-mask-mandates/
Week 7 Deep Dive Lecture

It relates because in the clip the waitress gives us insight to how Americans think in a way that is privileged, the idea that this is America and if your in this country you will bend to the norms and basically suppress your culture or identity to fit into this unspoken identity box.

8. What is missing from this that is important to note
I think this show focuses so much on the people who speak ups feelings, versus how the racism and reactions of the people around them impact the institutionalized racism.

10. How do people interact with this?
The people watching the actors portraying the victim and predator who don't know its a set up will hopefully be appalled and outraged enough to speak up, because that is what you do when you see something wrong, this reaction would hopefully educate and open other peoples eyes to the racism that still exists today.

Quest #17 A Pointlessly Gendered Product

In week 4 we discussed gender socialization where kids learn societies expectations of them based upon the gender they were born as. I felt this image answered the prompt because I had this exact red jeep as a young girl but I was always asked where is your pink barbie jeep by other moms who felt the red jeep with flames was for boys, just going to show that there are these standards for males and females that we need to stick to our gender roles even in activities like peer play.

1. Who made/created this?
Society a long time ago was centered on the male figure, which in turn created gender roles to serve the purposes of women having to depend on a man.

8. What is missing from this that is important to note?
In society as discussed in class there is this marketing that targets women and men using different branding and different messages for things that are neutral items used by anyone and everyone regardless of their gender orientation, things like the product pens for her, a single identical razor sold in pink and black for men and women, things like this separate and continue gender role socialization.

The concept I chose was culture shock, we discussed culture shock in week 3 as being a shock or almost discombobulated feeling when you are immersed in a culture that that has a different way of living than your own.

This photograph was taken of a community church on the balcony of my family friends house they built themselves in Ensenada Mexico.

The reason I chose this picture was because this place and experience opened my eyes to just how different our cultures are, for example we are always rushing to do everything on a set schedule, but out there they arrive when they arrive and its just a slow stress free way of living. The culture shock I felt also came from just the role I play as a woman in America, and even just around the corner from California I felt that my role had a significant shift into what I considered an old ideology, of making food and serving the men the minute I got there.

This is an example of culture shock because I was so used to my normal way of living and understanding of the world where I live, that when I arrived I had to learn how to interpret not just their language but their customs.
