In 1804 Haiti became the first ever country to become free from a slave rebellion. It also came with a cost. With all the natural disaster's and having to pay other country's it is the poorest nation. It is known for gang violence. Even today it s one of the worst in the world.

The slaves are the people that rebelled. The Spanish began to enslave the people of Taino and Ciboney. That made these people very angry. It happened after the explorer Christopher Columbus came onto there land. This also meant that it was the first country to be founded by slaves.
