Micheal(Martin) Luther King was born in Atlanta Georgia. His father was a minster,activist and missonary in the Atlanta area.

1944-Dr King begins College

At age 15, Dr King began his college education at Morehouse college at Atlanta. He graduated with a B.A. degree in Sociology from Morehouse and then later enrolled in Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania. At these two colleges he studied sociology, theology, ethics, and philosophy.

Early 1950s-Dr King meets his wife

Dr King then went to Boston University for graduates where he was pursuing a doctoral degree. He then meets his wife(Coretta Scott) who was a student at the New England Conservatory of Music. Dr King got told to call Coretta and they talked about their interests. They then meet up for lunch and their relationship developed quickly to the point that they got married on June 18,1953.

1954- Dr King gets his first job.

In 1954 at age 25 Dr king gets called to be the pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama.

1955- Dr Kings boycott speech

Following the Rosa Park event where she refused to give up her seat and got arrested, 4 days later on December 5, 1955 Dr King delivers a speech that urges a boycott of buses in Montgommry Alabama.

1957-Dr King founds The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC)

Martin Luther King, Jr., Bayard Rustin, Ralph Abernathy, Fred Shuttlesworth, and others, founded the SCLC in order to have a regional organization that could better coordinate civil rights protest activities across the South. Specially the Montgommry Bus Boycott.

1963- Dr King goes to Birmingham

Dr King and the SCLC go to Birmingham, the heart of segreation to bring the civil rights movement their. Dr King gets arrested for his protests and ends up wrtitng the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” to respond to a public statement of concern and caution issued by eight white religious leaders of the South.

1963- I Have A Dream Speech

After getting released from jail Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered this iconic 'I Have a Dream' speech at the March on Washington on August 28, 1963.

March 1965- Dr King leads the 5 Day Selma March

Dr King leads thousands of nonviolent demonstrators to the steps of the capitol in Montgomery, Alabama, after a 5-day, 54-mile march from Selma, Alabama, where local African Americans, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) were fighting for voting rights.

April 4,1968-Dr King loses his life.
